Responsibilities
Chaplaincy Services & Education provides spiritual care and chaplaincy services to adults, children, and families facing trauma, chronic, complex life threatening conditions and death and dying. This position provides comprehensive emotional and spiritual services to patients and or caregivers, as well as all staff and physicians dealing with spiritual distress. Such services Include making initial spiritual assessment, ongoing support, liaison with the spiritual community, and participation in overall bereavement assessment and follow up. Provide coordination and support for the Volunteer Chaplains, serves as a mentor to the CPE student and a member of the professional advisory group, The Chaplain collaborates with other members of the Interdisciplinary team to provide education, participate in quality initiatives, and track chaplaincy activities data and outcomes.
This position will minister to a diverse population and must be sensitive to all beliefs, cultural and ethnic heritage and spiritual history while addressing conflicts. The chaplain will perform other duties as assigned and may be required to serve at other UC Davis sites as UC Davis Health needs warrant.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience in serving as a professional chaplain providing and applying current and dynamic spiritual care understandings and resources into practice.
  • Board Certification Required (e.g., APC, NACC).
  • Master’s degree in theology, divinity, religious studies, or its equivalent in relevant training/experience.
  • Faith Group Ordination and current Endorsement.
  • Completion of a minimum of 4 combined ACPE Certified CPE Levels I and II units is mandatory.
  • Experience providing spiritual and emotional support to front-line staff, allied health students (as appropriate), and other healthcare team members.
  • Experience and advanced knowledge in planning, implementing, and documenting a course of action involving patient care and other forms of spiritual care and guidance.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams ensuring the highest quality of care in meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and families, and providing expertise and resource on sensitive, unusual, complex, and DEI cases.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Chaplain experience in a Level I trauma center.
  • Professional Development/specialized Certification relating to the field of Chaplaincy/spiritual care (e.g. Palliative, bioethics, mental health)
Special Requirements
  • Position requires flexibility and the ability to move between various locations throughout the UCDH Sacramento Campus; working evenings, weekends and holidays as needed to complete work assignments and projects and attend to the needs of the department.
  • This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
