Description:
Heartland AEA has a full-time Special Education Consultant position available for the 2023-24 school year, based out of the Adel or Guthrie Center AEA Office. This position will serve the Adair-Casey, Guthrie Center, and Panorama school districts. This position will have a 192-day contract and will provide services as part of a multidisciplinary team that assist parents and professionals in meeting the educational and social/emotional/behavioral needs of children and youth, as well as perform Child Find responsibilities, including evaluation of curriculum and instruction activities and techniques, and provide for the identification, evaluation, and educational programming of children with disabilities.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must be appropriately licensed/certified by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (or have the ability to obtain a license) and must hold a master's degree and a consultant endorsement (or have the ability to obtain the endorsement) and have four years teaching experience, including two years of teaching experience in special education. A balanced set of skills to include academic, adaptive behavior, and behavior assessment, intervention design with system level supports, and consultation is required. Strong background in MTSS (academic and behavior), data-based decision making, and experience modeling and coaching strategies for intensifying academic instruction are required. Experience leading systemic school improvement in the area of literacy and/or math within tiered systems of supports (MTSS) is preferred. Demonstrated experience developing and fostering strong relationships with district staff, families, and AEA staff required. In addition, the ability to communicate persuasively with parents and school personnel and collaborate in a problem solving approach is required. Strong understanding of special education law and procedures, as well as experience at the secondary level and involvement in secondary transition planning required. Basic computer and technology skills are required. Bilingual abilities are a plus, but not required.
