Davis Behavioral Health, Inc. is actively recruiting a full-time Psych Tech/Certified Peer Support Specialists to work in the Davis County Receiving Center and Crisis Recovery Unit (CRU).

The Receiving Center is a 23-72 hour alternative to inpatient hospitalization or incarceration that specializes in short-term crisis resolution. This facility provides observation, screening and social detoxification for police drop-offs, emergency department transfers and walk-in crisis services. The primary purpose of the Receiving Center is to provide a short length of stay and a focus on stabilizing the crisis and returning a person to community supports.

The CRU is an adult residential mental health facility for men and women.

Both the Davis County Receiving Center and CRU operate 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

The Receiving Center (RC) is a fast-paced, crisis environment. Peers at the RC utilize their recovery story to motivate, inspire, encourage, and engage clients in the first step of the recovery process. RC peers are expected to assist in rapid coordination of care, effectively de-escalate clients, dispose of contraband, inventory client items, maintain boundaries and help clients follow RC policy and procedure. A team motivated peer with strong assertive communication and conflict resolution skills, who can effectively multi-task, establish and maintain boundaries and present as a good role model to clients is strongly preferred.

Job Description

Peers and psych techs at the RC are front-line staff who work directly with the clients. Duties assigned to the HSTs include, but are not limited to, the following activities:

  • Regulate emotion, manage impulsivity, and assist clients in learning other skills that will increase their success in their home and community.
  • Manage milieu on the unit
  • Take crisis calls
  • Facilitate skills development groups
  • Assist professional staff in group activities
  • Assist clients in accomplishing treatment objectives as outlined by clinical staff
  • Record behaviors and activities
  • Ensure compliance with developed programs and individual treatment plans
  • Act as a liaison between clients, family, and professional staff.
  • Providing monitoring of client’s behaviors and consequences for clients as needed
  • Other duties as needed and assigned.

Location

The Davis County Receiving Center and CRU are located in Layton, Utah.

Shift

The successful candidates will fill the one of following schedules:

Receiving Center

  • Part-time: Saturday 11:00 pm to Sunday 7:00 am, Sunday 11:00 pm to Monday 7:00 am + 2-3 on-call shifts per week
  • Part-time: Monday 11:00 pm to Tuesday 7:00 am, Tuesday 11:00 pm to Wednesday 7:00 am, Wednesday 11:00 pm to Thursday 7:00 am + 1-2 on-call shifts per week
  • Part-time: Saturday 12:00 am to 8:00 am, Sunday 12:00 am to 8:00 am + 2-3 on-call shifts per week

Compensation & Shift Differentials

The starting hourly rate for this position is $17.00 per hour.

Shift Differentials

Employees working during the swing shift (3:00 pm to 11:00 pm) will receive a 2% shift differential. Staff working during the graveyard shift (11:00 pm to 7:00 am) or any weekend shift (Saturday 12:00 am to Monday 12:00 am) will receive a 15% shift differential.

Required Experience

The selected candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening. DBH will not hire individuals currently using illegal drugs or abusing alcohol; therefore, making employment at DBH conditional upon successfully passing pre-employment drug screening by providing a valid sample. Candidates who are offered employment are required to report for a drug screen at an Intermountain WorkMed location within 24 hours of being requested to do so by the DBH Human Resources Department.

Davis Behavioral Health works with Federal grants and must comply with the Federal drug laws, including no use of medical marijuana.

All staff at the Davis County Receiving Center are required to be First Aid and CPR certified within 30 days of hire.

The successful candidate must be certified as a Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) by the Utah Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health. Candidates who meet eligibility requirements to become a CPSS (http://hsemployee.utah.gov/dsamh/cps/) will also be considered with the expectation that certification as a Targeted Case Manager (TCM) is completed within the first 30 days of employment and certification as a Peer Support Specialist is completed as soon as possible, but no later than 6 months after hire.

Requirements to become a Certified Peer Support Specialist include:

  • Have lived experience and be a person in sustained recovery for at least one year from Mental Health and or Substance Use.
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Have at least a HS diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications to become a certified Targeted Case Manager through the State of Utah Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health include:

  • 400 hours of work, volunteer, and/or education experience in human services or a related field
  • Required 40-hour case management practicum and examination provided by DBH during the TCM certification class.

Preference will also be given to candidates who are bilingual English/Spanish.

The successful candidate must also have a clean driving record to operate agency vehicles and/or transport clients, when necessary.

Davis Behavioral Health utilizes an electronic medical record, which requires proficiency in computer-related skills.

Meeting monthly face-to-face service expectations and productivity standards is also required.

The successful candidate must be able to pass a pre-employment background screening, drug screening, and have a clean driving record.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with clients that have sever mental illness, are hard working, can work both independently and successfully within a small outreach team.

In addition, the following skills/qualities are required for the Certified Peer Specialist position:

  • Be a self-identified current or former user of mental health or co-occurring services who can relate to others who are now using those services
  • Have personal experience and knowledge of recovery
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Have demonstrated proficiency in reading and writing
  • Be able to establish trusting relationships with their peers
  • Be able to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Be able to work evenings and weekends
  • Have good knowledge of city’s public transit system
  • Be able to use computer to record services or be willing to learn
  • May need to be able to climb stairs when visiting individuals in their apartments/residences
