Position Summary

Qualified applicants should have wet-lab experience (particularly with pipetting and molecular biology), excellent fine motor skills and attention to detail, an ability to work well in a team and a passion for innovation. Computer programming/coding skills are a plus. If interested, the position would also allow for the opportunity to spend time at the Columbia University Fertility Center, one of the preeminent fertility centers in the world, shadowing physicians and observing procedures. A minimum of 1 year commitment is required.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires frequent travel to off-site locations in Westchester and NYC. Flexibility to travel on weekdays, weekends, and nights.

Responsibilities

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with Dr. Zev Williams on research projects to develop novel methods to understand, diagnose and treat disease
  • Assist in the writing, submission and execution of IRB approved research protocols, manuscripts and grants
  • Observe and contribute to the conduct of IRB approved research protocols
  • Conceive, design and execute experiments under the guidance and supervision on the mentor
  • Sample receiving, processing, data entry
  • Maintain inventory, request orders as needed and verify receipt and storage
  • Develop and assist in the development and validation of samples and generate the corresponding documentation of samples and generate the corresponding documentation of recommendation and findings
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to students and new personnel as assigned.
  • Attend continuing education, safety and compliance training as necessary
  • Maintain continuous and accurate communication with supervisor/manager on all pending and current issues
  • The incumbent will also perform other duties as assigned and as needed by the laboratory including but not limited to: sample receipt, sample accessioning and sample storage.
  • Working with human study subjects, animal models and cell culture.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma with six months related experience
  • Human subject research training and wet-lab experience. Good judgement and the ability to work without continuous supervision are very important.
  • Flexibility to work evenings when needed.
