Merrick is actively seeking an experienced HR Business Partner to join our team. Summary

This HRBP will have responsibilities in the areas of HR administration, employee relations, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures, and compliance of employment laws for our multi-state, international organization. Each of our HR Business Partners is proficient in an Area of Focus such as: performance management, training and development, or international HR. Being an active team member is critical to this role.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities


Human Resources, Employee Relations, and Compliance

  • Advises on employee relations issues to include addressing employee/supervisor concerns, progressive discipline, and escalating matters when appropriate including the termination process.
  • Assists employees and supervisors to settle work-related conflicts through counsel, advice, and best practices.
  • Actively promotes partnerships with all employees and the leadership team to foster a positive work experience for all employees.
  • Assists in driving and promoting the culture by researching workforce trends and participating in market/industry initiatives.
  • Responsible for both on and off boarding processes, including milestone check-ins, and exit interviews for all new hires and acquisitions.
  • Researches, develops, and delivers training for employees and supervisors on a range of HR topics to empower them to lead their teams more effectively. Training may be in person or through Teams.
  • Maintains current working knowledge of and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations including the EEOC and OFCCP for a multi-state organization. Similar legal and regulatory focus will be shared with our international offices with the appropriate governing agencies as well.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or related discipline strongly preferred. Qualified candidates without a bachelor’s degree may substitute a minimum of five (5) years human resources generalist experience.
  • Ability to become HR certified within two (2) years based on eligibility requirements. Preferred HR certification (SHRM/HRCI/CP/PHR)
  • Must have at least five (5) years of HR generalist experience:
    • At least two (2) solid years of HR generalist experience working for a government contractor is preferred.
    • HR experience with a multi-state location is strongly preferred.
    • Must have at least two (2) years of solutions-driven employee relations experience.
  • Ontario Canada and UK HR experience preferred but not required.
  • High level of integrity in handling sensitive information and working through confidential situations is absolutely required.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
  • Experience in the engineering /architecture industry a plus!
  • Due to the integrity required (perceived and actual) in any HR position, family members of Merrick employees will not be eligible for this position.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Travel Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to travel to office locations across the country and in Ontario, Canada (passport required). Travel is approximately 15-20% of the time, and in very rare occurrences without much notice.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.

  • Typical salary range for this position is $70,000.00 - $95,000.00.
  • The pay range listed in this posting indicates the position’s eligibility to work in the state of Colorado and is consistent with our offices there; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
