Technical Assistant

Finished Products – OCC & Dry End Support

Springfield, OR

The Job You Will Perform:

This position reports to the Finished Products Business Unit Manager in Springfield, OR. The IP Springfield Mill is a 1,650+ ton per day containerboard mill.

Description: The Technical Assistant Superintendent is responsible for assisting the Finished Products Team with the leadership, coordination and technical expertise to support and optimize the day-to-day operations of the Finished Products Area. Focus areas for this TA will be the OCC Plant and the Dry End of the Paper Machine

Key Functions:

  • Support Area Safety and Environmental Results
  • Lead process problem solving and process optimization to improve OME and Machine Paper Machine Performance
  • Support Mill’s Quality Manager by providing Product Quality Leadership and assist in Investigating Customer Issues and Claims and Machine Trails
  • Support Mill’s Process Control Team to assure QCS and DCS controls are maintained and optimized
  • Support the Area Team and Reliability Group in Reliability Investigations and Timely Completion of RCFA Action Items
  • Support the Mill ME Group to identify and implement Cost Reduction Projects
  • Participate in the development and execution of capital projects
  • Assist Area Managers and FLLs in Operator Training and Certification

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • Technical education consisting of BS or higher in chemical or mechanical engineering, pulp and paper technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of operational experience in pulp and paper.
  • Active participation in safety, labor relations, problem solving and other committee/team activities.
  • Hands-on experience in education/training, maintenance planning and scheduling with high degree of computer skills.
  • Direct involvement with customer service related to product and service. Green/yellow Belt Certification desirable.
