Salary Range: $18.50-$20.00 hrly

Position Summary:


A Street Tech 1 performs a wide variety of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled public works and maintenance functions, including street maintenance, storm drainage system maintenance, parks maintenance, weed control, cemetery maintenance and snow removal.


Essential Functions & Basic Duties:

  • Perform Town of Monument maintenance activities.
  • Patching potholes, repairing, and installing street signs and banners.
  • Cleaning storm sewer piping.
  • Mowing parks, emptying trash at Town parks and lake area.
  • Painting facilities.
  • Playground maintenance.
  • Digging vaults and graves.
  • Opening and closing graves.
  • Weed control, pruning trees, removing trees, as necessary.
  • Ice and snow removal.
  • Maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • May lead crews of seasonal, community service workers by assigning work and monitoring work progress.
  • Serves “on Call” for after hour needs.

Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret safety precautions,
  • ability to understand the Material Safety Data Sheets for the materials that are used daily.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment such as: backhoe, loader, grader, vac truck, snowplow equipment, mowing equipment, grinders, welders, drills, demo saw and miscellaneous hand tools.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with other public works team members, vendors, inspectors, and the general public.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Perform all physical requirements of the position to include lifting and carrying heavy (up to 75 pounds) objects.
  • Able to drive a 4-wheel drive truck.
  • This position requires a “CDL - B” license or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment and would therefore be subject to random drug / alcohol testing.
  • The employee must maintain a valid driver’s license at all times.



Physical Demands/Work Environment:


  • Sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, reaching, walking, bending, lifting, climbing, and stooping.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • May be exposed to chemicals and other hazardous materials.
  • The incumbent’s work may expose him / her to high places, dangerous machinery and its moving parts, sharp tools, fumes, chemicals and / or toxic substances.
  • The position will require travel to various work sites and mobility in extreme weather conditions.

  • The work environment characteristics described above are representative of those an employee would encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. This position requires both inside and outside work in all weather conditions year-round. This position requires detailed work under changing, intensive deadlines on multiple concurrent tasks, constant interruptions and interaction with government officials and the general public.
