Six (6) month full-time temporary assignment
The Natural Resources seasonal position assists with the maintenance and improvement of outdoor natural areas undergoing habitat restoration. Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. Occasional Saturday or weekday evening working with volunteers
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist with stormwater best management practice inspections and maintenance
- Assist with wetland and wetland buffer inventories and inspections
- Assist with inspection of conservation easements for compliance with easement agreements
- Assist with natural resource project inspections and implementation
- Conduct inspections for encroachments into parks and other public lands
- Control invasive species and maintain natural plant habitat areas with volunteers, city staff, crew or independently
- Assist with identification of native and invasive plants
- Conduct proper control of invasive species including manual removal, dead heading, cutting, stump treating and herbicide sprays
- Assist as needed with workshops and volunteer events
- Assist with record keeping, including mapping and GIS
Other Job Functions:
- Plant trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants
- Maintain tools, supplies and storage shed
- Natural resource recordkeeping
Qualifications
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Strong interest in water resources management, natural resources management practices, habitat restoration, green infrastructure
- Ability to identify common trees, shrubs and weed species in various stages of growth
- One field season of related field work experience
- Able to take accurate field notes including mapping
- Able to bend and stoop repeatedly while working
- At least 18 years of age
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Possess a reliable vehicle for field work
Desired Job Qualifications:
- Education in natural resources, water resources, landscape design, or related field
- Knowledge of and experience with invasive species and control measures
- Knowledge of water resources management and wetland plant communities
- Experience leading volunteers
- Experience spot-spraying using non-restricted herbicides
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Additional Information

Knowledge of: Microsoft office suite computer programs and GIS Skilled in: effective communication with the general public.
