Unit D5 is a 36 bed cardiovascular step down unit caring for patients admitted for interventional cardiac procedures, medical cardiology, vascular surgery and the designated stroke unit. We serve patients with a variety of acute medical, cardiac, vascular and respiratory conditions. We monitor class I telemetry and manage cardiac drips. Specialized training includes CORE EKG classes and stroke certification. St. Joseph’s earned the 2018 Women’s’ Choice Award for America’s Best Hospitals for Heart Care, Healthgrades Quality Award for Cardiac Surgery Excellence and recognized as one of the 2019 Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals by IBM Watson Health.

POSITION SUMMARY: Delivers direct patient care in collaboration with the Registered Nurse. Performs tasks that do not require nursing judgements or administration of medications.

Duties include, but not limited to: Bedside patient care, vitals, positioning, feeding, Phlebotomy and EKG.

Is accountable for the patient care they deliver. Adheres to St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center standards of care and practice.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

High School diploma or equivalent with medical background, mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity preferred.

Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise. Completes population specific competency annually on populations served as identified in scope of care and service.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Current BLS/CPR certification required andFirst Aid training.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

Office/Clinical setting. Exposure class I.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Heavy work: requires standing, lifting, pulling, pushing and carrying.
