Summary

The Kent Public Health Clinic within Public Health Seattle and King County is seeking a skilled Nutritionist to join our Public Health First Steps team!

This position will provide First Steps services (Maternity Support and Infant Case Management) within the context of a multidisciplinary team including Public Health Nurses, Registered Dietitians, Social Workers, and Community Health Workers. Nutritionists are responsible for providing nutrition assessment and education, breastfeeding support, and case management to individuals and groups as part of a client-centered Public Health Parent Child Health team through both in clinic and field/home-based services.

The successful candidate will exhibit excellent customer service skills, have the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with our clients from various cultures, and communicate effectively with English as a Second Language (ESL) clients with the assistance of an interpreter. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, flexibility, compassion, and positive team skills.

Work Location & Schedule:

This position is primarily at the Kent Public Health Center at 25742 104th Ave. SE, Kent, WA 98030. The candidate may work at various King County Public Health Centers and satellite offices based on business need. The candidate must have the ability to travel to sites throughout King County.

This is a full-time, onsite, opportunity. Current work schedule is 8:00am-5:00pm Monday- Friday; with a possibility of future Saturday or evening hours to meet client/business needs. Workdays and hours may change based on business needs.

Job Duties

  • Provide direct client and nutrition services to a caseload of diverse clientele.
  • Provide group nutrition education and individual nutrition education, which includes breastfeeding support.
  • Gather and assess information for determining health and nutrition risk factors, program eligibility, client education, and referrals.
  • Conduct individual nutrition assessment and counseling through the use of anthropometric, clinical and dietary information. Create, implement, and document care plans developed through nutrition assessment.
  • Assess the changing needs of medically complex and high-risk clients, primarily pregnant, post-pregnant, breastfeeding persons, and infants up to one year old.
  • Coordinate care with team members and other health care providers, making referrals to appropriate services; provide and document case management, as appropriate.
  • Accurately obtain and document anthropometric measurements for adults and infants, which includes, but may not be limited to, height/length, weight, occipital frontal cortex.
  • Actively participate in Quality Improvement activities for program service delivery throughout the year.
  • Assist with orienting new staff to clinic and First Steps program as requested; provide discipline-specific training at various staff meetings.
  • Conduct First Steps outreach and participate in clinic health and information fairs as needed.
  • Document client information and services, and manage appointment schedules in EPIC electronic health records, to support the First Steps (MSS/ICM) program and services.
  • Work with a variety of computer programs, including but not limited to, Microsoft Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Current Registered Dietitian (RD) registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration or have the ability to attain registration by date of hire.
  • Bachelor, Masters of Science, or Masters in Public Health Nutrition required.
  • Must be a Washington State Certified Dietitian or have an application in process and be able to obtain within 30 days.
  • Candidates selected will also be required to successfully complete the department credentialing process and maintain credentialing for the duration of employment.
  • A National Provider Identification (NPI) must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
  • A current BLS CPR certification and AED training required at time of offer. CPR/AED Heartsaver courses do not meet this requirement.
  • Ability to lift and lower items weighing up to 35 pounds onto a surface more than 4 feet high with or without accommodation.
  • Experience providing direct client nutrition services.
  • Knowledge of theoretical and practical principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics.
  • Ability to maintain positive interpersonal interactions with clients and co-workers as a member of a multi-disciplinary public health team with a diverse, multi-cultural population.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully perform a number of tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines and work under strict time constraints and remain flexible to changing work responsibilities based on staffing.
  • Public Health relies on computer technology and web-based tools; candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use and programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health records, to perform work.
  • Ability to drive a county car and travel in a timely manner within King County to various locations for field based services.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Work experience providing First Steps (Maternity Support Services and Infant Case Management).
  • Experience providing nutrition education in a group setting; as well as clear ability to organize, lead, and facilitate group discussions and staff training.
  • Established knowledge of local health and social service resources available in the community and skill in establishing working relationships with community partners.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish or other language spoken by our First Steps families.
