Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages the day-to-day activities of the maintenance department. With a workforce of 2-3 maintenance technicians performs all maintenance work and duties required by the facility.
- Attends to all personnel matters in his area of responsibility to achieve a motivated, productive, and capable workforce. Administers company rules and procedures for the personnel under his responsibility.
- Monitors the performance and productive output in his department, takes corrective action as required. Makes recommendations and implements productivity improvement initiatives and equipment upgrades.
- Repairs and/or replaces equipment as needed, to the highest standard of quality, at optimum cost and reliability.
- Sets up and implements preventive maintenance schedules for all plant and mobile equipment to ensure optimum equipment on-line time and minimum operating cost. Maintains records to manage preventive maintenance scheduling.
- In coordination with production, schedules equipment outages for preventive maintenance purposes in order to minimize its impact on production.
- Trains equipment operators on the proper checking and operating procedures in order to avoid equipment abuse and premature wear.
- Maintains records and produces various reports required for accounting purposes and to monitor the productive output and costs for his area of responsibility.
- Maintains highway mobile equipment to the highest standards of maintenance to ensure continued compliance and minimize company liability exposure. Schedules state mandated tests and inspections and keeps required logs and records.
- Maintains a safe work environment and promotes safe work practices. These include but are not limited to lockout procedure, lifting and rigging, electrical shock hazard, fall protection, etc. Communicates and implements company and regulatory safety policies and standards.
- Insures that all equipment and tools are safe to operate and use. Performs routine inspections to meet internal, OSHA and insurance requirements. Detects and correct safety issues.
- Maintains high standards of housekeeping in his shop as well as plant areas where he performs work. Assists production in their housekeeping efforts by repairing leaks and waste sources.
- Coordinates company energy saving activities. Maintains proper energy saving systems and leads continuous improvement program in this area.
- In coordination with purchasing, maintains a timely supply and inventory of materials and spare-parts as needed to insure uninterrupted or minimum downtime equipment operations. Maintains appropriate inventory logs and controls.
- Makes budget recommendations on capital expenditures in order to preserve the capital investment of the company. Proposes and updates a long-range calendar of equipment replacement based on equipment optimum life-cycle.
- Manages all environmental permits compliance requirements pertaining to air, water, wastewater, and storage tanks including equipment operation, maintenance, testing and reporting.
- Ability to implement a continuous improvement program to eliminate defects, waste and improve workflow and processes.
- Ability to implement and sustain an equipment preventative maintenance program
- 10 years maintenance experience with 5 years at the Management level.
- Thorough knowledge of Mechanical equipment, preferably in a Precast or related industry.
- Thorough knowledge of Electrical equipment, including power distribution systems and electronic controls. Thorough knowledge of Heavy and light mobile equipment.
- Excellent leadership, communication and people skills.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
- Basic PC computer knowledge.
