Licensing Coordinator
Job description
The University of Virginia’s Office of Communications is seeking a Licensing Coordinator to help build a best-in-class collegiate licensing program. The Licensing Coordinator will manage a range of projects and implement strategies in support of the University’s collegiate trademark and licensing business. Reporting to the Director of Licensing, the Licensing Coordinator will assist the director in overseeing licensing protocols, guidelines, and contracts. This position will support the development of new products, marks, and partnerships to meet the high-level of consumer interest in UVA licensed collegiate product. The Licensing Coordinator will assist in approving proposed artwork from licensed vendors, monitoring compliance, and ensuring brand consistency. Successful efforts will result in increased visual awareness of the UVA brand, high consumer satisfaction, novel partnerships with well-known consumer brands, and growing program revenue.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports the Director of Licensing in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the department’s strategic licensing plan.
- Works in coordination with the Director of Licensing to oversee the daily operations of the licensing program.
- Coordinates and communicates with university stakeholders, including students, staff, alumni, and fans regarding new product releases, product acquisition, and trademark licensing policies through timely responses to phone, email, and social media inquiries.
- Assists in the review of licensee proposals, requests, and renewals to determine appropriateness of product assortment, distribution capabilities, program relevance and commitment, as well as help assess potential contributions to our licensing program.
- Assists in enforcement efforts related to trademark infringement and compliance issues, including monitoring of online websites (eBay, Facebook, Etsy, etc.) for unauthorized use of trademarks, as well as monitoring the retail marketplace for unlicensed products and products failing to adhere to our licensing policy.
- Conducts regular marketplace surveys and site inspections of the retail marketplace.
- Stays current on industry trends and topics through following trade publications, performing market analysis, and attending relevant tradeshows and conventions.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least one year of related professional experience, including relevant internship experience

- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Results-oriented and self-motivated, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Closely follow trends in the retail space.
- Able to see the big picture without missing the details, understanding quality and consistency are of high importance.
ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE:
$50,000- $58,000, commensurate with experience

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
