Position: Library Family Place Coordinator
Martin County Library Branches
Position is contract with reSOURCE Government Services
Hours/Schedule: Up to 32 hours/week, M-F
(Occasional Saturdays and Sundays needed_
Pay rate : $16.43/hr.
Must be able to pass criminal background and drug testing
SUMMARY:
Under general direction of the Literacy, Education & Outreach Manager, the person in this position is responsible for coordinating, hosting, and marketing Family Place programs and services throughout the Library System. This includes planning Parent/Child Workshops, contracting with and coordinating schedules of resource professionals, and conducting outreach to underserved segments of the community. The Coordinator also builds partnerships in the community with other agencies and organizations in an effort to support parents in their role as their child’s first and most important teacher while expanding services for young children and families in the library setting. Additional work is performed in various library functions such as outreach, programming, and general reference for children, parents, and other library patrons. Maintains and organizes Family Place equipment at all library locations including setup and tear down after each event as well as assisting internal and external customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement and evaluate all aspects of the Family Place program at all branches of the Martin County Library System.
- Provide outreach to community children and families to attract new library users to Family Place programs.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with child-focused organizations in the community. Initiate joint projects with these organizations to promote the development of family literacy skills.
- Promote library and Family Place services throughout the community and conduct presentations to external agencies to familiarize them with the services and resources of the library.
- Establish and maintain a resource center for parents, caregivers, and early childhood professionals.
- With the Volunteer Manager, train and oversee the work of any volunteers who are involved in Family Place activities.
- Coordinate activities with other library staff working with children and families.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Knowledge of library principles, methods, procedures, and techniques.
- Knowledge of children’s and young adult literature.
- Knowledge of community activities, interest, needs and resources.
- Knowledge of professional library principles, methods, materials, and practices.
- Knowledge of library reference materials and research techniques.
- Ability to work independently in a wide variety of situations.
- Knowledge of children’s and family resources.
- Able to utilize computer technology and software applications.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to work with youth of all ages.
- Ability to express ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to remain flexible and adapt to a dynamic environment.
- Able to work a schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
- Bachelor's degree with major course work in English, Social Science, Computer Science, Humanities, or related field.
- Substantial knowledge of the community.
- One year working experience in required area of responsibility.
