Job description
Do you enjoy working as part of a team? Without the boss breathing down your neck? How about working outside, perfecting your craft, and showing off your skills? Have you ever thought about taking your expertise and becoming a crew leader?
Can others count on you? Someone who supports the team, takes care of the customer, and is excited about excellent work?
As a privately held residential exterior-only painting company in the Phoenix area, Crash of Rhinos Painting has an immediate need for a Painter with at least one years' experience painting residential homes. Yes - We only paint the exterior of residential homes in the Phoenix area. There's no interior work, no commercial work, and no new builds.
But we know you didn't come here to learn more about painting. If you're reading this, you already know how to prepare a job site, prime a pump, and inspect work progress to ensure we're delivering a finish aligned to our solid principles.
As a Painter, We're In This Together
- To be a successful Painter here, you must align with our principles and values.
- We take pride in our work, have integrity in everything, and take exceptional care of the customer.
- And, you must appreciate and respect everyone on the crew. At Crash of Rhinos Painting, we share the foxhole, and until we've walked in someone else's shoes, we don't pretend to know what they're going through. We're in it together. Our owners believe this, our crew leads believe this, and our customers know this about us.
Big Egos Need Not Apply
- We don't know if this has ever happened to you, but it frustrates us when we hear stories about someone firing a painter because he broke a tile or two on a customer's roof. We know that these mistakes happen.
- We aren't perfect, won't pretend to be, and won't expect perfection from you either. As a team, we fail forward. You read that right. When someone on our team messes up, we don't walk them out the door; we work to improve our processes and their skills. We let the customer know together. Broken tiles happen, but if you tell us immediately and work to prevent it in the future, we learn and move on.
- If your ego tends to get the most of you and you struggle to admit when you've made a mistake, this probably isn't for you. If you're the type of person that feels the rules don't apply to them, please do not apply – you won't last long here.
Do You Have Radical Confidence?
- As a Painter in Phoenix, AZ, we expect that you trust your crew members, your leadership team, and the customer. Not because they deserve it but because you believe that most people want to do the right thing – even if it doesn't always come across that way.
- At Crash of Rhinos Painting, we have a saying, "trust but verify." We're in this foxhole together, and if we can't trust each other, then it won't last long.
Outcome-Driven
- The Painter is driven to create positive results for themselves, the crew, and the company. We don't slack off and expect the work from others. It's in our core to drive toward the final result with the endgame in mind.
What We're Not Looking For
- If you like what you've read so far, we may likely be a fit. But just so we don't end up wasting each other's time, here are a couple of other things we're going to be looking for during the interview process. Yes, we are giving you the answers to the test!
- This isn't the place for you if you've been walked off multiple jobs because you simply didn't give a damn about the work's quality or worse, the rest of the team. We work hard so we can go home to our families and then play hard. You can't casually stroll in whenever you want (that goes for the interview too). When you show up late, you're not just letting yourself down. You're letting your crew down too.
- Phoenix's winters are why so many of us live here, but our summers… they're brutal. If you've never worked outside in the summer heat, in Phoenix, when it's 110+ and aren't sure you're going to like it, then this probably isn't the job for you. Sure, we take care of our team to keep them cool and safe, but there's only so much we can do when it's summertime in Phoenix.
- Finally, we aren't looking for a Painter who just wants to buy some time until something else comes along. If you know Crash of Rhinos isn't the place for you, please don't apply with us.
Who We Are Looking For?
- First and foremost, we're looking for someone who wants to join our team.
- When you apply for the Painter position, you want to paint residential exteriors and want to be a part of our team.
- One key to success in this role is effective communication with your supervisor, the crew, and even the customer.
- The right candidate is driven to support and train team members as needed, and while this isn't critical to success in the role, it's essential to your success at Crash of Rhinos.
- This next part is probably no secret since you've already read how much we take care of each other. To fit into this role, we'll need to know that nothing is beneath you. We check our egos at the door, and we help out where it's needed. That goes for everyone on the team.
So, What's In It For You?
- Remember we're looking for people who want to join a team where they are appreciated as a person. We know that you don't live to work but instead work to live, to take care of your family, and to wake up to a career that excites them. We want you to have that here.
- Our leadership team trusts first (it's in our core values), and we don't micromanage here. That said, they will if they have to – but they don't like to.
- We keep our team members employed year-round—no layoffs in the slow season.
