Responsible for providing both technical assistance and maintenance of all ground robotic systems used by U.S. Military forces. Inspects, solves unusual electronics problems, and performs organizational, intermediate and depot level electronic maintenance/modification on U.S. Military ground robotic systems, subsystems and other components related to this portfolio. Ensures all robotic systems are fully operational and maintained to the highest readiness possible to meet operational, exercise and training needs of U.S. Military forces.

Plan and implement routine maintenance on all robotic platforms. Thorough knowledge of technical publications related to maintenance. Clarity of written and oral expression desired. Must have knowledge of the scopes and limitations of various categories of electronic maintenance (related maintenance functions) and their applications to the contract unit. Must be able to inspect, repair, and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment. Acts as a Special Technical Advisor to his Supervisor. Advises and trains other technicians as needed.

Position reports to Field Supervisor.

Essential Responsibilities:

Applies basic and some advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents including determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes. Requires a detailed understanding of the interrelationships of circuits and judgment in planning work sequence, in selecting tools, testing instruments, and is reviewed for compliance with accepted practices. Troubleshoots, maintains and repairs small unmanned ground vehicles and related payloads; micro and mainframe computers and terminals; and industrial measuring, controlling equipment, and industrial calibration devices. This technician works under immediate supervision and achieves technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician. Applies technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining malfunctions, and applies skill in restoring equipment operations.

Work may be reviewed by the Supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. Frequently lifts items weighing 40-45 pounds and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.

Procedure Compliance - Each employee must read, understand and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to his/her job.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

  • Minimum five (5) years actual and recent aircraft, vehicle, communications systems or missile repair experience required.

  • Must know theory and principles of flow of power within an electronic circuit, robotic motion controllers and software, brushless direct current electronic motors and point-to-point communications devices.

  • Must be capable of using and reading schematics, wiring diagrams, block diagrams and data tables.

  • Must be willing to attend, and successfully complete, a five week Robotics Maintenance and Repair course hosted at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, MI.

  • Position requires ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

  • Position may require approximately 15% travel outside of the assigned area of support.

  • Must have ability to meet physical demands and pass any related medical examination requirements required to perform daily assigned tasks.

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or robotics engineering preferred.

  • Current adjudicated clearance preferred.
