JOB SUMMARY (the purpose and general nature of the job):

A Controls/Startup Engineer II performs machine start-ups and provides electrical support during the machine assembly process. Once the machine is built, they will perform the final electrical buyoff/verification, which includes operational and safety system checks. The position requires the individual to be able to work independently with some guidance. A Controls Engineer II may be tasked with additional project by senior engineers. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES include the following:

  • Perform initial start-up on multiple machine types.
  • VFD setup, sensor checks, verify safety systems and machine are operational.
  • Troubleshoot and solve and electrical/programming during assembly to keep machine on schedule.
  • Perform electrical buyoff and verification that machine and safety systems are functional once machine assembly is complete.
  • Assist with drawings or other tasks assigned by senior engineers.
  • Provide input on improvements to electrical buyoff/verification procedures.
  • Capable of following verbal and written instructions from management and senior level engineers.
  • Communicates with customers as directed in a professional and efficient manner.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: Minimal requirements for education, knowledge and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, process controls, electrical equipment, PLC programs, HMI applications, sensors, valves, motors, drives, VFD motion control.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61131-3 programming languages (ladder, structured text, function block diagram).
  • Experience with PLC manufacturers: Allen Bradley, Siemens, Omron preferred.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting motion control systems using equipment from manufacturers like Allen-Bradley, Kollmorgen, and Marathon preferred 2-5 years preferred.
  • Ability to setup/configure communication networks (EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, IO-Link, ControlNet, DeviceNet, etc).
  • Proficient with AutoCAD for electrical design work with 2-3 years minimum experience required combined with PDM know-how.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting using standard electrical test equipment.
  • Basic mechanical understanding/aptitude, comfortable using simple hand tools.
  • Technical writing skills preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field (Controls Engineering, Software Engineering, automation, controls) preferred.
  • Experience with machine start-ups.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment preferred.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: This position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:

Prolonged periods working on manufacturing floor working on machines and periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. (office environment).
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times (plant floor environment).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
