St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Beach Equipment Operator for our Parks and Recreation Department whose headquarters are located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida.

The newly selected Beach Equipment Operator will be responsible for the operation of a variety of specialized heavy equipment in order to provide safe and easy access to St Johns County driving beaches, facilities and parking lots.

The ideal Beach Equipment Operator candidate must possess St. Johns County’s core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness and must work well in a collaborative team environment. A hard work ethic and ability to work in a wide array of extreme weather is must for this position. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to:

• Operates, maintains, inspects and makes minor repairs to assigned heavy equipment.
• Maintains detailed equipment use logs and fuel usage reports.
• Grades and maintains all beach access ramps for driving purposes.
• Operates equipment and vehicles in heavily populated areas consisting of both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
• Removes trash and recyclable materials.
• Assists supervisors in scheduling equipment maintenance.
• Maintains and operates hand and power tools.
• Follows safety protocol, guidelines and procedures relating to equipment usage and maintenance.
• Attends assigned safety and training classes.
• Responds to after-hours emergencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Candidates for the Beach Equipment Operator are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
• Minimum of one (1) year of related experience operating heavy motorized equipment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Class “A” driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles with six (6) months from date of hire.
• Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
• Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
• Must be able to operate a computer.
