Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Advanced Technology of Molten Salts group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Research Scientist/Engineer

Our team works an on-site 4x10 schedule located at our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off!

Responsibilities Include:

The person in this position is expected to display understanding and application of pyrochemical processes and molten salt systems and to perform research activities to support programs in these areas. The individual will work on problems of diverse scope and must have general knowledge of related disciplines. The individual will demonstrate good judgement in selection methods for solution. The individual works under only general direction and largely independently determines approaches to solutions. The individual contributes to completion of specific deliverables for which failure could result in program delays. The individual performs The individual is expected to maintain qualifications as a Principal Researcher (PR) and a security clearance; To perform research that supports the various missions at the laboratory; to represent the laboratory at national and international technical meetings and conferences; and to form collaborations with other domestic and international laboratories and universities.

Performs in the role of Principal Researcher (PR), as assigned. In this role, they supervise and/or performs research and development (R&D) activities so that work is conducted effectively, efficiently, safely and securely in accordance with procedures, policies, work -control documents, and the principles of Conduct of Research. The PR provides leadership for researchers in assigned laboratory/experimental spaces.

The individual will act as a mentor for the laboratory oversight of interns, post-doctoral employees, and junior employees. Employee has the responsibility (with oversight) to plan short or medium-term research activities including budget and resource planning. Will provide a significant role in reporting research accomplishments at conferences or customers at programmatic meetings. Individual is expected to engage proactively and productively within their technical or research subject area to resolve technical and administrative challenges.


QUALIFICATIONS


Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in a science, engineering, or related field
  • PhD in a science, engineering, or related field plus a minimum of 2+ years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience with molten salt electrochemistry, molten pyrochemical and molten salt processes
  • Demonstrated ability with self-direction and time management to accomplish programmatic needs
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship

Job Information:

  • Salary Grade PR0200 -210 ($93,492 - $154,212)/ PR0300 - 220 ($107,520 - $177,336)
