Position Details

Zeeland Public Schools has an opening for a Young Fives Teacher at Quincy Elementary School. This position is .50 FTE. The Young Fives Teacher teaches the young fives curriculum, including phonetic awareness, phonics, literacy skills, math, science, social studies and SEL. Our Young Fives Teachers create friendly learning environments where students are engaged and develop a love for learning. This “gift of time” before students enter kindergarten is an important year in establishing a love for learning and skills for learning.

Responsibilities:

• Teach the Y5 curriculum in engaging ways, such as group discussion, dramatic play acting, and field trips to stimulate students’ interest in and broaden understanding of their physical and social environment.
• Foster cooperative social behavior through games and group projects to assist children in forming satisfying relationships with other children and adults.
• Encourage students in singing, dancing, rhythmic activities and in use of art materials to promote self-expression and appreciation of esthetic experience.
• Instruct children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care.
• Alternate periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity to avoid overstimulation and fatigue.
• Discuss students’ problems and progress with parents.

Qualifications:

• Current Michigan teaching certificate with Elementary endorsement is required, Early Childhood endorsement is preferred.
• A growth mindset and the ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations.
• Ability to effectively write emails and other family communication.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from families and staff.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
