Job Summary
Provide assistance in the receiving, issuing and inventory of materials supplies, tools and equipment for the Operations Center. Perform responsible clerical duties in support of the material control function.
This is a full-time, regular, non-exempt union position. This position is covered under the provisions of an agreement between the City and AFSCME.
Job Details
Essential Functions:
- Receive stock and issue parts, supplies and equipment; tag, sort and count inventory; assist in moving, cleaning and re-tagging inventory.
- Perform general clerical work including filing, routing and receiving mail, and responding to customer requests.
- Maintain a variety of files and records related to inventory management; verify accuracy of information, research discrepancies, and update records.
- Assist in maintaining the inventory of supplies, parts tools and equipment; enter data into inventory records, adding or deleting items to maintain appropriate balances.
- Unloading deliveries with the use of a forklift.
- Providing customer service to customers as they come into the Warehouse to get supplies.
Qualifications
Experience and Education
- One (1) year general clerical and/or knowledge of how a warehouse functions
- Equivalent to a HS Diploma/GED
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Computer Skills
- Basic skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Required Licenses and/or Certifications
- Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license
Ability to obtain:
- Forklift certification within six (6) months of hire
- Valid CPR/First Aid card within three (3) months of hire
Knowledge
- Basic methods, techniques, terminology and procedures used in a large, centralized warehouse;
- Types of products, commodities, equipment and services used by a large municipal public works operation;
- Principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting;
- Safety regulations, safe work practices and safety equipment related to the work.
- Pertinent federal, state and local laws that pertain to: Procurement procedures
- Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
- Use of personal computers and basic software
Abilities
- Organize, stock and issue supplies and equipment
- Perform tasks in a safe manner, which may require climbing, stooping and lifting;
- Consistently provide quality service
- Perform responsible clerical work including the maintenance of appropriate records and compiling information for reports.
- Operate appropriate equipment including a forklift
- Operate a personal computer and appropriate software
- Work in a manner consistent with the City of Vancouver’s Operating Principles
- Work and act as a team player in all interactions with other City employees
- Provide a high level of customer service at all times
- Project and maintain a positive image with those contacted in the course of work
