Description & Requirements

Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP seeks a summer Law Clerk to join its Communications, Technology and Media team in the firm's Washington, DC office. The Law Clerk will work full-time during the summer with the option of continuing part-time during the school year, depending on mutual agreement. The Law Clerk will be responsible for researching, assembling and organizing legislative and regulatory information impacting the telecommunications, broadband and media sector. The Law Clerk will assist in drafting memoranda and reports analyzing proposed legislation and regulations affecting the communications sector. Law Clerks that have completed at least one year of law school by June 2023 may be considered for hire by the firm as a 2L Summer Associate in 2024, depending on the Law Clerk’s career interests, performance and position availability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
  • Complete training on publication drafting with various Telecommunications team members.
  • Learn the process for creating client briefings and newsletters with the objective of owning these processes.
  • Create mailings for communications legislative and regulatory updates using Mailchimp.
  • Shadow multiple individuals within the Communications, Technology and Media team including Partners, Associates and fellow Law Clerks, supporting key projects for each stakeholder.
  • Perform and assist in legal research in partnership with Paralegals and Legal Practice Assistants.
  • Assist in preparing information and research materials, including written documentation and presentations, using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the Communications, Technology and Media team to build legal knowledge and an understanding of notable processes and procedures.

Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily, with attention to detail. Enthusiasm for learning and development is expected. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


Current enrollment in law school with a preference for students who have completed one year of law school by June 2023. Excellent research and writing skills as well as a passion for technology are required. A writing sample that includes legal analysis must be included with the application.
