Department Profile:

The Company's Global Sustainability Office aims to drive the growth of sustainable investing through ongoing development of products and solutions, economic analysis, thought leadership and capacity building initiatives.

Within GSO, the Global Sustainable Finance (GSF) team's work supports product creation and development across Investment Banking, Sales & Trading, Investment Management and Wealth Management. These products can include investible products or digital applications.

The GSF Labs team is seeking a skilled and experienced Solution Engineer who will be responsible for devising Proof of Concept solutions via a multitude of cross platform technologies. The candidate will also be an IT platform generalist who will assist in exploring new capabilities for the team, including in geospatial data analysis and AI/ML/NLP. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, be experienced in software design and development, and have a passion for creating innovative and efficient software solutions.

Successful candidates should be well-organized, detail oriented, and work well in team environments.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with ESG SMEs within Labs to design and develop integrated solutions for various projects focused on ESG insight and data analytics
• Collaborate with cross-functional and technology teams to productionize and scale up proof-of-concept software solutions
• Assist with exploring and creating geospatial data analysis capabilities and provide tool support
• Build and integrate APIs and external systems to create end-to-end solutions, provide technical support and troubleshoot issues as they arise
• Ability to quickly learn emerging technologies and adopt solutions from within the company or the open-source community
• Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in software development, including NLP and AI/ML

Requirements (we encourage interested candidates to apply even if they do not meet all required qualifications):

• Master's degree in in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 3+ years of experience in software development with concrete results
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including Python and Java
• Experience in developing web services using standard Python or Java based frameworks/toolkits (REST, SOAP, JSON, and XML)
• Technical expertise with cloud-based technologies and services such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, together with analysis tools such as Apache Spark, Cloudera, or Databricks
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Strong attention to detail with persistence, tenacity, and drive for results
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively

Exposure to one or more of the following areas is a plus:

• Experience with geospatial data analysis and tools, such as QGIS, ArcGIS, Mapbox, or Google Earth Engine
• Experience with ingesting and transforming geospatial data types including GeoJSON, GeoTIFF, SHP, or other vector and raster formats
• Experience with machine learning and data science libraries such as scikit-learn, pandas, and numpy
• Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI or visualization libraries such as Dash, Seaborn, Plotly, Bokeh
• Experience with database systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB
• Experience with modern UI development technologies such as React, Angular, or Node.js
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
• Knowledge of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards and frameworks.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between 85,000 and 135,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
