The Surgical Counselor is responsible for assisting patients with all aspects of pre-operative preparations to promote patient confidence in their medical care and to make the surgical experience as smooth as possible.
Job Duties include:
- Educating patients regarding surgical procedures, lens options, pre-operative and post-operative care
- Running IOL calculations, lens orders, charts and flow of surgery schedule
- Acting as an effective liaison between the patient, surgeon, co-managing doctor, and the surgical facility in all aspects of pre-operative preparations
- Scheduling patients' appointments including surgeries, pre-operative and post-operative appointments
- Arranging patient transportation, if needed
- Notifying patient of all scheduled appointments
- Preparing surgery folders and post-op kits.
- Collecting all pertinent information for upcoming surgery such as lens orders, insurance, financing and payment for IOLs, H&Ps, signed consent forms, and transfers to the surgical facility
- Answering all telephone inquiries from patients, their family, or primary care physicians regarding surgery and/or related concerns
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Two years or more experience in a surgical specialty practice, ophthalmology preferred
- Ability to travel between clinics as needed
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Analytical problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Demonstrated computer literacy.
