JOB TITLE: Superintendent/Principal

REPORTS TO: Board of Education

FUNCTION OF JOB: The primary functions of the superintendent/principal are to oversee the organizational goals, policies, and procedures, hire and supervise district faculty and staff, work with the board of education to implement a shared vision, and maximize student achievement.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Communicate with the board of education on the condition of the District’s educational system, budget, and policy
• Develop and recommend to the board of education school objectives
• Hire, retain, and provide for the optimum use of faculty and staff
• Act as lead learner and set goals to make sure students meet their learning objectives
• Develop school calendar, schedule, and logistics for the District
• Apply for grants and monitor applications
• Oversee facilities maintenance and improvements
• Implement innovative and non-traditional education structures
• Think creatively and be prepared for an unpredictable work environment
• Work with varied socioeconomic youth as well as students with special needs
• Promote school in the community and beyond and implement the strategic plan
  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Michigan Administrator’s Certificate.
• Michigan Teaching Certificate preferred, but not required.
• Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in education or related field desirable.
• Previous experience in teaching desirable.
• Applicants must be comfortable in rural setting, with experience in an isolated district preferred.
• Applicants must be prepared to meet the educational needs of students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds both administratively and through the execution of the curriculum.
• Preferred applicants are those we think innovatively and work as a team with students and staff to achieve a diverse set of educational goals.
• Must understand the significance of public schools within a rural community (Upper Peninsula of Michigan), and be willing to plan for the success and longevity of the Burt Township School District.
  

SALARY: Salary is based on experience and qualifications; competitive with current administrative positions.
