Job description

The City of Valdez, Streets Department is currently accepting applications for two temporary summer hire positions.

The rate of pay is $22.68 - $23.59 DOE per hour 37.5 hours per week. Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have a valid Driver's License, CDL a plus. The successful applicant will be required to submit to a driving history review to ensure insurability by the City of Valdez.

Positions are open until filled, review of applicants will begin May 1, 2023.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Repairs sidewalk, curb, gutter, pot holes and crack sealing for Valdez streets
• Assist with, repairs water, sewer and drainage systems.
• Installs, maintains and repairs traffic and pedestrian signs.
• Cuts and cleans out brush and trees along roadways and trails.
• Inspects vehicles and equipment prior to operations; cleans equipment, vehicles and work areas; reports maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor; assists mechanics with minor repairs.
• Complies with all safety rules and regulations.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

Knowledge of:

• Department and City policies and procedures.
• Traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in heavy equipment operation.

Skill in:

• The safe operation of equipment and vehicles.
• Multiple priorities, meeting deadlines and following work instructions.
• Proper use of PPE

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in internal and external environments with exposure to inclement weather and varying temperatures. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, materials and airborne and blood borne pathogens, and frequent walking, bending and lifting. Employee may be called out to work off-shift in emergency situations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must have Valid Drivers License, CDL preferred. Will be required to undergo driving record check.
