WHAT DOES A SOCIAL WORKER - SUBSTANCE ABUSE SPECIALIST DO?

As our new Social Worker - Substance Abuse Specialist, you're passionate about human services. Your job is to help people with substance use disorders, severe mental illness, and other behavioral health issues. You provide counseling on treatment and rehabilitation and sometimes even go with them to appointments. You help collect paperwork for things like social security and housing applications and provide support through the process.

You work in different places like their home or a treatment facility. You're great at helping people understand their needs, strengths, and career goals, as they seek to set goals and make plans. Some of the other things you help with are housing, medical needs, legal help, transportation, childcare, and employment. You're happy to make referrals for substance use rehabilitation and harm reduction.

You keep in touch with clients to monitor their progress and identify any problems. You keep track of employment information and monitor them for their first 6 months on the job. There are sometimes challenges, but you enjoy helping people with your expertise in psychology and vocational rehabilitation. That's why you love your case management position with our nonprofit!

WOULD YOU BE A GREAT SOCIAL WORKER - SUBSTANCE ABUSE SPECIALIST?

To be successful as a Social Worker - Substance Abuse Specialist, you'll need:

• Bachelor's degree in social work or a related field such as psychology, vocational rehabilitation, or occupational rehabilitation

• Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC A+)
n
• 2+ years of case management experience OR a combination of training and work deemed acceptable by the agency
n
• Covid-19 vaccination
n

We'd love it if you're able to speak two languages, but it's not required. Do you have great attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a team?
