Socail Worker Duke Dementia Family Support Program


Part Time, 20-Hours per Week


The Duke Dementia Family Support Program offers educational programs, consultation, and support for people living with dementia and their care partners.

Occupational Summary

The social worker will provide education and support to people living with dementia and their families around issues related to adapting to a dementia diagnosis, living with memory loss, and caring for someone with dementia. This work will be with individuals and groups, working at times individually and at other times as part of a team effort.

Work Performed:

  • Information and Assistance: Respond to telephone and e-mail consultation request from families or professionals seeking services or information about memory disorders. Follow-up may include in-person or Zoom consultations.
    • Enter data from client contacts into REPCap and iContact
  • Employee Elder Care Consultation Service: Respond to requests from Duke employee families for in-person, telephone, Zoom or email elder care consultations.
  • Support Groups and Outreach Programs
    • Co-facilitate bimonthly the Evening Support Group for family care partners and possibly other support groups.
    • Provide educational presentations on dementia, and family caregiving for DDFSP support groups and programs, and to, community groups or Duke employee seminars.

4) Assist with generating content ideas and proofreading Triangle Monthly E-News.

5) Co-create and write content for educational programs targeting specific populations of care partners (i.e., middle stage, etc.)

Required Qualifications

Education/Training:

  • Work requires a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited school of social work.
  • Current licensure as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) or associate (LCSWA) by the NC Social Work Certification and Licensure Board.

Experience:

Prefer a minimum of two years of experience working with individuals living with dementia and dementia family care partners.


Preferred Skills:

The successful candidate will:

  • Adhere to the practice standards and ethical guidelines of NASW and the NC Certification Board for Social Work.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills along with basic computer skills and willingness to learn database and website software used by DDFSP.
  • Showcase their proven ability to work both independently and within a team with excellence, dignity, and respect.
  • Demonstrate initiative and a willingness to learn.

Demonstrate the ability to multitask, and excellent time management skills.
