Small Engine Technician
Job description
We are looking for a motivated and organized individual to run and work in the small engine repair shop. This person repairs and services customers’ small engine gasoline equipment, including completing repairs for warranty claims.
SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:
- Provide high-quality repair services
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and perform service to power equipment including, but not limited to: mowers, snow blowers, chainsaws, weed trimmers, blowers, generators, compressors, pumps, and others in a timely and efficient manner
- Ability to review manuals and warranties accurately Clearly
- Explain the diagnosis and required repairs to customers including warranty claims
- Requires good verbal and written communication skills
- Maintain shop cleanliness and uphold all shop requirements
- Observe all safety and security procedures
- Responsible for special order parts and coordinate parts ordering with parts manager
- Participate in all training and development via computer
- Initiate outstanding sales and service on all work orders
- Ensure exceptional care of equipment & tools as well as cleanliness of the shop
- Responsible for completing service work in a timely manner
- May be required to cross-train and perform other duties
- Uphold company safety standards and ensure appropriate procedures are followed
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Good mechanical abilities in small engine, diesel, and hydraulic systems
- Knowledge of small engine theory (2 and 4 stroke): lubrication, cooling, ignition and fuel systems.
- Certifications in major manufacture brands like Honda, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, Master certification is a plus!
- Ability to work independently without supervision
- Ability to access and use the in-store computer
- Ability to complete computer-based training
- Experience with electrical systems,
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Good visual acuity and close vision for computer work
- Ability to lift, push, and/or pull a minimum of 50 pounds repetitively
- Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time
- Repetitive wrist movements with tools
- Ability to verbally communicate effectively and professionally with all audiences (in-person, via telephone or email)
- May have exposure to chemicals, including but not limited to gasoline, diesel fuel, propane, kerosene, and cleaning solvents
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A high school diploma / GED is preferred but not required
- Customer Service Aptitude
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Equipment rental industry experience preferred
