Summary:


The Simulation Center Technical Specialist reports to the Administrative Manager of the Medical Simulation Center assists the Simulation Center staff in the day-to-day operation and strategic development of high-fidelity medical simulation. Collaborates with principal educators in the development and delivery of simulations designed to improve and educate healthcare providers (hospital staff medical students residents fellows and attending physicians). This position is expected to operate with considerable independence and flexibility within the confines of an annual work plan and requires limited project supervision and oversight. This position is part of a small operations team that interfaces with a diverse group of educators researchers and students. Provides input into the departmental budget related to assigned area(s) of activity and may supervise support personnel.


Responsibilities:


The Simulation Center Technology Specialist assists in the development and implementation of high-fidelity medical simulation educational courses focused on medical error prevention. The Specialist contributes to simulation center operations and the medical training of healthcare providers as follows:

Assists in development of high-fidelity medical simulation educational materials.


Programs simulators to display appropriate physiology for learning objectives using proprietary computer software.


Prepares maintains and troubleshoots technical and mechanical aspects of the simulators including the maintenance cleaning and repair.


Attains mastery of simulator operational software and a comprehensive knowledge of hardware characteristics including coordinating with vendor to resolve serious mechanical failures. . Acts as the primary point-of-contact with external vendors to fulfill and coordinate center equipment needs

Stages the simulation arena through the preparation of environmental cues for the planned simulation scenarios. Resets simulation arena and control room post-simulation events

Coordinates activities in the Control Room and operates simulators task trainers standardized patients and the audio-visual equipment. Responsible to capture edit render and replay simulation sessions for debriefing and as appropriate research data analysis. Assists in the development and maintenance of an archival system.

Coordinates with Lifespan Information Services and is responsible for computer operations on simulation control PCs and audio-visual PCs. Specific tasks include software installation operating system maintenance backup and troubleshooting on simulation center PCs.

Assists in research studies requiring high-fidelity medical simulation scenarios.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION:

Level of knowledge generally acquired through completion of technical diploma or Associate degree in technology or health related field. Bachelor's degree preferred. Previous work in medical simulation or Information Technology are preferred.

Familiarity with basic computer programming theory is necessary.

Skills and abilities in computer use setup and maintenance are required. Knowledge of Windows 10 and Mac OS X computer systems are preferred.

Ability to learn and master system and proprietary software is required.

Ability to independently troubleshoot A/V and computer simulation-related equipment

Basic knowledge of medical emergencies and terminology is preferred

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE:

Two years� experience in a related environment is preferred. Experience in a clinical medical acute-care setting is preferred. Such experience should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.

Excellent organizational skills and project management skills ability to effectively and independently coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; ability to adapt to and take full advantage of changing technology in medical simulation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed in various hospital and research environments. May require standing for extended periods of time and independently lifting up to 50 lbs or horizontally moving up to 150 lbs of simulation A/V or medical equipment.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Performs independently with the department�s policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to the supervisor when clarification of the departmental policies and procedures are required.
