Advanced supervisory work in coordinating, supervising and participating with Plant Mechanic I's and helpers in the maintenance, fabrication, and repair of mechanical equipment related to wastewater treatment plants, and wastewater lift stations.
Plans, organizes, and directs the work of Plant Mechanic I's and helpers in the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of pumps, motors, and electrical system at wastewater treatment facilities. Instructs Plant Mechanic I's and helpers in proper work methods. Provides technical instructions as required and makes periodic inspections to ascertain that established work methods and practices are followed. Coordinates with departments for installation, repair, and maintenance assignments as requested by the affected department. Submits requisitions for equipment and materials, reviews work orders for priority, clarity, and completeness. Distributes work orders to subordinates and maintains work order logs. Performs related work as required.
- Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of skilled and semiskilled employees.
- Ability to develop reports reflecting the work activities of the unit.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and the general public.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques used in the installation, repair and preventive maintenance of a wide variety of electrical motors, pumps, and electrical systems.
- Ability to make inspections of wastewater, water, and reclaimed water facilities to determine operating conditions of facility machinery and pumping equipment for needed repairs/maintenance.
- Ability to work from blueprints, make field sketches, and initiate written and oral instructions.
- Skills in the proper use of mechanic's tools and shop equipment in the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of wastewater, water, and reclaimed water treatment facility equipment.
- Ability to read for comprehension.
- Ability to lift up to 80 pounds.
PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to lift up to 80 pounds. Ability to bend, climb, squat, stoop, and walk frequently. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Minimum four (4) years' of direct experience in water or wastewater treatment or reclaim water maintenance or experience with electrical motors, fuel powered motors and various types of pumps.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must possess a minimum FWPCOA (C) Wastewater Collection Technician Certification. Must obtain a valid Florida CDL class "B" temporary permit within thirty (30) days from date of hire and the permanent license must be obtained within one hundred twenty (120) days from date of hire.
