Security Specialist
Job description
Under general supervision, the Security Specialist guards, patrols, observes suspicious activities, and monitors public movement, CRSV properties/facilities to proactively prevent criminal activity and/or school policy violations. The Security Specialist must ensure that the organization has the most suitable and safe working environment for its students, staff, faculty, and their activities. Complete safeguard against any crime by unauthorized individuals.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitors and controls visitor access to facilities by verifying that only authorized personnel can enter/remain in authorized areas while guarding against fire, theft, vandalism, and damage of CRSV property
- Makes periodic internal and external security checks of assigned facilities and/or assigned areas
- Provides coverage of security surveillance camera reviews and security of surveillance camera images utilizing applicable hardware and/or software systems
- Reports unusual conditions, suspicious individuals and activities to the President dispatch utilizing walkie-talkies and/or other communication devices
- Writes daily reports of job activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized person, or unusual occurrences
- Notifies police dispatch and/or sounds alarm response to fire, evacuation in the event of safety or security threats, difficulty with unauthorized person, or medical emergencies
- Assists in carrying out responsibilities associated with crisis management, protocols, and procedures
- Maintains a high visible profile in facility or assigned area to safeguard CRSV property, maintains the safety of CRSV employees and visitors and monitors public movement in the area
- Communicates with visitors, the public, and CRSV staff in a courteous manner
- Maintains positive relationships and acts as a liaison with law enforcement and City of North Las Vegas officials
- Conduct regular inspections of all school grounds and equipment to ensure that high standards for safety are maintained. Recommend to the President any improvements needed.
- Analyze all accidents and regularly search for patterns in injury reports in order to establish corrective procedures to reduce the potential for future accidents or hazards
- Monitor and recommend systems and procedures to ensure the security of all facilities.
- Maintain effective communications with staff and faculty to elicit support and to seek perceptions and ideas for the improvement and safety of the facilities
- Attend required meetings and serve on staff committees
- Notify and assist the administration and appropriate emergency personnel of any emergency, and potentially dangerous or unusual situations
- Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school. Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and an effective work ethic.
- Use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions
- Protect confidentiality of records and information about staff and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines
- Adhere to federal statutes and regulations, construction codes, State rules and regulations, School policies and procedures, and contractual obligations
- Conforms to safety standards as prescribed
- Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Verifiable work card from the State of Nevada Private Investigators Licensing Board
- Valid Concealed Carry Firearm Permit in accordance with NRS 202.3653-202.369
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certificate from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or other similar organization. Certification must be maintained for the duration of the assignment. Certification training must be in-person and include a hands-on component. Online courses will not be accepted.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Climate-controlled office setting and exposure to weather with temperatures ranging from mild/moderate to extreme cold/heat.
- May involve intervention in physical confrontations and defusing of confrontations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Light/heavy – Exert force to 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, up to 10 lbs. constantly. Negligible amount of force to walk, stand, push, pull and carry. Strength to subdue resistant persons, lift, drag, or carry persons or objects.
- Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities.
