Summary:
Under the direction of the Buildings and Grounds Coordinator, the Seasonal Laborer performs
functions necessary for the maintenance of the District's grounds, facilities,
roadway boulevards, tanks and buildings. There is frequent interaction with the
Groundskeeper and other District staff. This is a seasonal position and will
end by the date indicated at the time of hire. Work hours are generally
Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-3:30 pm and the position requires 30-40 hours per
week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs maintenance of District facilities, such as mowing, string trimming,
clearing brush and debris, seeding, fertilizing and maintain landscape including
pruning, mulching, weeding.

• Maintains and cleans maintenance equipment, washes vehicles.
• Operates light equipment, such as riding lawn mower, pickup truck.
• Operates string line trimmer, zero turn mower, walk-behind mower,

edger, general groundskeeping equipment.

• General cleaning of buildings and open air below ground tanks,

including sweeping, shoveling and power washing.

• Participates in graffiti removal, digging and filling holes, painting and

general landscaping.
Other duties may be assigned.

Education and Experience:
Must be at least 18 years of age and have a High school diploma or
equivalent.
Experience operating lawn mowers, string line trimmers, and other similar
equipment is desired.
Language Skills:
Must have the ability to follow oral instructions and ability to communicate
effectively. Must have the ability to write simple correspondence, complete
forms and make notes in work orders.
Mathematical Skills:
Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of
measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to work as an effective team member and establish and maintain
harmonious working relationships;
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Must possess a valid Illinois
driver's license upon application and maintain such during entire course of
employment.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required
to stand, walk (non-paved areas), sit for extended periods of time, climb,
balance, and use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and
smell. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, knee, crouch or
crawl. The employee may also be required to enter confined spaces.

Must be able to work extended hours outdoors and in varying weather
conditions, including hot, humid, sunny and inclement weather conditions.
Must be able to work with exposure to pollen, dust, grass clippings, and other
outdoor allergens.
Ability to work independently within established guidelines.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle and related maintenance equipment.
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and carry up to 50 pounds.
