School Social Worker (K-12) - ONE YEAR ONLY
Job description
**THIS IS A ONE-YEAR-ONLY POSITION AND CONTINGENT UPON THE IMMEDIATE RESPONSIVE SERVICES GRANT**
Primary Objective: To specialize in a form of social work focusing on students with concerns of a social/emotional nature which interferes with typical progress in school. The emphasis is upon assisting the student and/or family to find appropriate assistance, and not upon the provision of long-term therapy provided locally.
Essential Functions:
- Offer direct short-term service to students and families when needed.
- Confer with parents when students show signs of poor school adjustment.
- Attempt to adjust home conditions whereby more favorable conditions will be attained in regard to school work, behavior, attendance and interest.
- Advise parents of private or community agencies which can offer them support.
- Refer cases requiring long-term case work to outside social agencies, private doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, etc.
- Refer cases to Juvenile Court when necessary.
- Prepare parents before referring them to these outside resources.
- Cooperate with outside sources who are working with a student or family and to help keep the school informed.
- Serve as a consultant to principal, counselors, and teachers in regard to family students.
- Bring to the principals, counselor and teacher all data which will make for a better understanding of the student.
- Set up case conferences of all interested parties for better understanding of a student's problem.
- Explain the purpose of school social work.
- Maintain required records.
- Provide liaison with the Children’s Division of Family Services and Special School District.
- Serve on school and district-wide committees and participate in in-service training.
- Coordinate Child Study teams involving all interested parties for a better understanding of a student's problems and to devise an intervention plan to address those problems.
- Complete all special education referrals and to participate in the diagnostic process as both student advocate and LEA representative.
- Coordinate referrals between Webster Groves School District and Special School District.
- Participate in the 504 eligibility and/or plan writing process and maintain records in this regard.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Missouri Social Worker Licensure
- Master's Degree required
- Experience working with K-12 students
