Job description
This is responsible, routine support services work directing traffic in conjunction with the moving of children to and from school.
***This position is a part-time seasonal position. Days worked will be based on the Miami Dade County Public School Systems calendar. Selected candidates will work approximately 3.5 hours daily (split into two shifts, morning and afternoon)***
- Places school sentinel signs in the roadway at designated points near crossing and removes them before going off duty
- Controls vehicular traffic at designated crossing to allow children to cross safely
- Controls children using the crossing to assure that they conform to traffic regulations
- Takes appropriate action with children who fail to cooperate and reports such action to the immediate supervisor
- Performs related work as required
- Six (6) months full-time paid public contact experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have ability to react quickly to moving vehicles and situations involving the safety of school children, to give clear hand signals, and ability to roll traffic signs into position and remove them negotiating curbs when necessary
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact
- No significant moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, or sitting
- Significant standing and walking
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation.
- Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required.
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

- Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach
