Job Description
The Safety Manager position in the Auxiliary Services Division is responsible for creating and implementing a robust safety program for all facets of the organization including Food Services, Housing and Lodging and the Campus Store. This role will develop and maintain comprehensive safety standards to ensure management takes the necessary action to identify and address safety risks within the business including personal protective equipment, hazard assessments, and machine, tool and equipment best practices. In addition, the Auxiliary Services Safety Manager will audit safety and health programs for compliance with OSHA standards, state and local government regulations and University best practices. The Safety Manager will also develop and execute training programs, conduct accident and incident investigations, and establish root cause (5-why) reporting and corrective action reports to maintain a standard of business excellence and continuous improvement.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in EHS discipline, engineering, or technical discipline; or equivalent industry experience.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Six (6) plus years of experience supporting and managing within an EHS function.
  • Knowledge of warehouse process.
  • Minimum 5 years of prior Environmental, Health or Safety experience or a combination of those functions.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading a team.

Job Specific Qualifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft office suite; advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups, manage people and coordinate with external vendors.
  • Proven ability to drive process improvements, get results, and facilitate change management initiatives.
  • Experience with application of federal and state laws, OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Expert knowledge of Lockout tagout and food services industry equipment safety standards.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities
Establish and implement a safety program for the Auxiliary Services Division. Develop and manage the implementation of programs to ensure management takes the actions needed to raise employee awareness of risks and to reduce, avoid and protect employees from hazards in the workplace. Develop and manage programs to maintain and improve the safety of all employees. Develop written occupational health and safety training programs for Food Services, Housing and Lodging and Campus Store.

Identify common safety/health hazards inherent in operations and establishes guidelines for protection accordingly. In coordination with operating managers, establish a safety culture by conducting job hazard analyses, identifying training requirements and creating PPE standards. Conduct workplace safety audits and document correction actions.

Investigate major accidents or problem areas and recommends future preventative measures. Respond to emergencies and conduct root cause analysis to make recommendations for corrective action. Develop and share safety/accident prevention communications that spotlight/highlight common/frequent safety concerns/challenges.

Audit safety programs for compliance with OSHA standards, state and local government regulations and university best practices. Maintain knowledge of emerging occupational health and safety requirements as they relate to the business and liaison with university partners within Division of Safety and Emergency Services, Risk Management, Environmental Health and Safety, Fire and Life Safety Services and the Department of Public Safety.

Leverage technology and software for timely reporting, monitoring and analyses. Prepare monthly and annual comparison data summaries/periodic reports and analyzes data to summarize compliance, identity trends and corrective action. Ensure all vendor equipment and safety training programs are compliant and reflect the university’s standard of excellence.
