Overview
Improve Your Tomorrow, Inc. (IYT) is a college access and completion organization focused on increasing the number of young men of color to attend and graduate from colleges and universities. IYT’s vision is a nation where young men of color are overrepresented in higher education, underrepresented in the criminal justice system, and are leaders in their communities. IYT is an AmeriCorps partner organization serving 3,500+ members across more than 60 sites in Sacramento County, Humboldt, Central Valley, Bay Area, and college students across the nation.
Position Overview
In an effort to strengthen the recruitment and retention of Improve Your Tomorrow’s Mentor Fellows (AmeriCorps members), the Recruitment & Onboarding Specialist will be dedicated to expanding and building the program’s capacity and their partnering organizations to effectively recruit and retain members. Reporting to the Recruitment Manager, the Recruitment & Onboarding Specialist will work with the Improve Your Tomorrow team to expand community outreach, build social media presence through active posting and coordination with current and potential partner agencies, and promote the transformational impact of the program on populations with whom they work. The Recruitment & Onboarding Specialist will utilize effective recruitment strategies to increase the number of Mentor Fellows to serve at Improve Your Tomorrow in the Bay Area region; Pittsburg, Richmond, Vallejo and Brentwood.
Responsibilities
The Recruitment & Onboarding Specialist will provide capacity building support to Improve Your Tomorrow as defined by the achievement of the following outcomes:
- An increase in Mentor Fellow applications received
- An increase in number of AmeriCorps member slots filled
The Recruitment and Onboarding Specialist will be charged with daily outreach, communication, and scheduling of events and opportunities to meet the above mentioned outcomes. In addition to creating and refining systems to recruit and retain quality AmeriCorps members.
The Recruitment & Onboarding Specialist's activities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Be well-versed on the purpose of the program and its recruitment goals and deadlines.
- Gather and maintain updated information on the application process and timelines for the program.
- Identify and develop partnerships to increase outreach to potential AmeriCorps Members.
- Participate in any events or opportunities on behalf of the program that may potentially expand Improve Your Tomorrow’s branding and or increase leads.
- Expand community outreach through presentations at colleges, career fairs and other venues that are frequented by prospective Mentor Fellows.
- Build social media presence through active posting and coordination with partner agencies.
- Schedule and conduct a high volume of interviews year round and select qualified individuals to serve as Mentor Fellows in the Central Valley region.
- Spearhead onboarding, offboarding and pre-service orientation for Mentor Fellows in the Central Valley region.
- Track and maintain data regarding progress towards achieving project outcomes.
- Implement strategies to retain Mentor Fellows and engage Alumni in promoting the Mentor Fellowship opportunity.
- Participate in weekly check-in meetings with the Recruitment team to set goals and touch base on progress toward target outcomes.
- Provide follow up information or support to potential candidates or applicants in the pipeline.
- Other tasks and job duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
Qualifications

- Minimum 1-2 years of recruitment, sales or HR experience desired but not required
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) with demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively.
- Willingness to quickly learn and be flexible in a fast-paced, evolving work environment adjusting to the needs and timelines of our organization’s needs
- Ability to work independently as well as be part of a team
- Organized with a strong attention to detail

Requirements
- Fingerprinting and the ability to pass background checks (expenses paid by employer)
- Valid Driver’s License
- Reliable Personal Vehicle, expected to travel throughout Northern California (mileage reimbursed)
- Auto Insurance
Schedule
40 hours a week from Monday-Friday, between 8:30am-5:00pm (30-minute lunch). Some evenings and weekends are required.
Compensation
This is a full-time exempt position. The salary for this position is $64,480-$75,000 per year with the opportunity to earn additional quota pay between $3,000 to $4,000 a year. IYT offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, vision, and dental insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with 3% employer match after one year of employment, 2 weeks of accrued paid vacation, up to 2 weeks of paid time off for school breaks per the approval of the organization, and mileage reimbursement for approved work-related travel.
Work Location
This position will require frequent travel and is temporarily remote. Will require occasional visits to the Sacramento Headquarters for trainings and meetings.
New Hire Orientation will be held at our Sacramento offices for 3 total work days, accommodations provided.
