Summary:

The Recreation Manager serves as a member of Student Center Operations and Conference Services leadership team and reports to the Assistant Director of Operations of Student Center Operations on the Health Sciences Center (HSC) campus. This Recreation Manager fulfills a key position in the management of the HSC Recreation Center and intramural sports program within the Student Faculty Center (SFC) on the HSC campus. Significant responsibilities include managing all intramural programs, special event activities, recreational tournaments, group fitness program, personal training program, and event staff hiring, training, evaluation, and scheduling.

The position supervises (15) student staff and indirectly supervises up to 25 student staff on the SFCAO team. Assists in data collection and analysis of customer satisfaction for the HSC Recreation Center. Works in collaboration and partnership with housekeeping and facilities management, as well as a variety of university departments including computer services, HR, and the controller’s office. Assists in the development and implementation of departmental events. Performs other duties as assigned.

This position is a vital part of Student Center Operations and Conference Services. As a department within the Division of Student Affairs, the SFC Activities & Operations office, serves the HSC Temple University community with a vibrant 144,000 sq. ft. facility that houses meeting and multipurpose areas, university offices, lounges, study areas, and a variety of campus services such as Campus Recreation, Tech Center, the Bookstore, Student Health Services, and Student Financial Services. The position supports the mission of the Division of Student Affairs and Temple University on the HSC campus, contributes to a positive university experience, and is accountable to all Division of Student Affairs (DoSA) Values. Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration, Recreation Management, Physical Education, Student Affairs, or a related field
  • At least two years of directly related experience in Campus Recreation or a related student affairs field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent time and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft ecosystem software, Google Docs, and room diagramming software.
  • Excellent organizational skills, along with the ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse population of students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple collaborative projects and systems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of student development theory, student employment outcomes in higher education settings, and knowledge of higher education student programming, well-being, and engagement theories.
  • Ability to work and contribute to a positive, energetic, and fast-paced environment, multi-task, resolve conflicts, collaborate, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with program development and marketing concepts relative to development and operation of recreation services.
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends for special events.
  • Ability to travel between multiple campuses.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain a positive and objective customer service approach and attitude even when confronted with difficult situations.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
