Production Supervisor - 2nd Shift

Main Purpose of Job


Responsible for the supervision of the Walk-In and attainment of meeting/exceeding Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost KPI's in the following areas: Foam Door Section, Foam Rotary, Stack presses, Corner Press, Foam Modification and Tooling. May also be responsible for overseeing production in the metal services/forming department.


Plans and schedules labor to meet production schedules. Utilizes equipment and materials to meet defined quality standards in manufacturing Master-Bilt products and assembling component parts. Maintains operation with established standards for cost, quality, labor, maintenance, scrap, safety, housekeeping, etc. Checks production for below standard performance and takes corrective action. Assigns employees to jobs, instructs them in performance of work and familiarizes them with company rules and regulations. Maintains discipline and recommends transfer or discharge of employees. Contacts Plant Operations to correct operating and manufacturing mechanical problems.


Supervision

  • Supervises activities of the walk-in department ensuring that due dates are met.
  • Coordinates activities with second shift supervision.
  • Synchronizes work crew and flow of production to top efficiency for all shifts, including good tie-outs with first shift.
  • Supervises activities of two Group Leaders and all personnel under control.
  • Enforces all safety rules and practices.
  • Assist Team Leads with associates following Standard Work at all times.
  • Completes accident reports on any accidents and strives for prevention of future accidents.
  • Leads or facilitates problem solving (Fishbone/5Why's & A3 Problem Solving).
  • Represents Master-Bilt in legal aspects of employee's termination as requested.
  • Maintains good company attitude in work crew.
  • Works with other department heads to accomplish positive and constant improvements in quality and volume of production.


Scheduling

  • Schedules remake and put-in panels in most efficient manner to meet ship dates.
  • Reviews Stack Press schedule on all shifts to avoid scheduling errors and cut down on tooling change.
  • Closes out work orders when complete and maintains open work order reports.


Organization

  • Arranges areas of responsibility (working closely with other departments responsible for needs) to efficiently meet production requirements with the advice of Plant management.
  • Adjusts employee staffing to meet production demands.


Maintenance of Equipment

  • Knows the workings of stack press, corner press, foam pumps, door press and foam guns to troubleshoot and isolate problems.
  • Reports any problems that Maintenance Department must repair.
  • Ensures that cleaning and maintenance of foam gun is performed and orders replacement parts.
  • Ensures inventory and ordering of parts for tooling is performed.
  • Orders and maintains workable inventory of foam chemicals for both foam areas (reach-in and walk-in).
  • Ensures quality check and accepts or rejects foam chemicals.


Production Quality

  • Decides on quality of materials.
  • Decides on workability and cosmetic quality of finished panels.
  • Leads quality corrective action response in his/her department.

Training

  • Trains new workers and also trains for flexibility of working crew.
  • Ensures continued training of working crew of new techniques.
  • Tests new products and reports results to management.
  • Completes written reports upon request, weekly and daily reports that are required.


Personnel

  • Ensures fair payment for work performed and records performance accurately on merit reviews with help from Group Leaders and shift Foremen.
  • Schedules vacations and records attendance.
  • Advises management of qualified personnel for promotions.
  • Administers disciplinary action required for personnel working in department.
  • Writes job descriptions and keeps updated for personnel working in department on all shifts.
  • Train and develop Team Leaders on a path leadership improvement.
  • Ensures all associates in his/her department have been trained in all company wide OPEX curriculum.

Goals

  • Strives continually to meet and exceed all goals set by management, by effective organization of work force, efficient use of pallet space and work simplification.
  • Motivates crew to turn in suggestions to boost production, produce better quality sections or cut production costs.
  • Is involved with and promotes lean manufacturing activities within department.
  • Leads or participates in at least one Kaizen Event annually.

  • Ensures quality of production and foam standards are met.
  • Ensures on-the-job training and supervision efficiency of Group Leaders.
  • Ensures safety compliance.
  • Carries out special assignments.
  • Improves on goals and recommends changes.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of equipment in department(s) and troubleshoots foam problems.
  • Plans proper number of tools and work stations necessary for efficient production.
  • Analyzes and appraises situations that exist in the field that require corrective action.
  • Conducts the necessary steps to perform corrective action in the field on Master-Bilt products.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Leadership skills required.
  • Microsoft Suite skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)



Minimum Qualifications


  • High School Diploma, or GED/HSED
  • Five years of supervision in a manufacturing environment preferred.
