General Summary
This position works under general direction and is responsible for managing the production process and employees on assigned shift to maximize production results and meet Customer demand. This is a hands-on position that is heavily engaged in day-to-day production activities.
Prinicpal Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides leadership necessary to achieve production goals by:
- Driving safety culture.
- Scheduling and assigning personnel and establishing priorities, communicating job expectations, and planning, monitoring, and evaluating job performance. Providing coaching follow-up for performance regarding development, safety, quality and productivity.
- Mentoring employees and directing work assignments through effective communication and cultivating a positive work environment.
- Initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures, as well as promoting and implementing company and/or department initiatives and/or directives provided.
- Creating the basis for continuous improvement and employee empowerment by ensuring that standardized processes are followed, countermeasures implemented, and the area is compliant with safety requirements.
- Supporting management team members and peers as needed.
- Ensuring effective employee relations. Resolving employee issues through problem resolution.
- Promoting, rewarding, and maintaining communication, teamwork, flexibility, cooperation, and customer focus within and between departments. Creating a culture of engagement by driving
- Engagement Matters actions and engaging employees daily.
- Conducting shift/department meetings regarding communications, department and plant concerns, and policy interpretation.
- Maintaining staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training and developing personal growth opportunities for employees.
- Delivers departmental objectives through performance management of safety, quality, productivity, cost, and people.
- Fostering an environment conducive to continuous improvement and lean manufacturing by utilizing 5S and other tools.
- Conducting root cause analyses and determining corrective actions.
- Recommending and implementing measures to improve processes, equipment performance, safety standards, and quality.
- Assessing equipment, building, and grounds conditions and initiating work requests for repairs.
- Coordinating and scheduling Preventative Maintenance work orders for Operators and
- Maintenance and assisting in assessment of preventative maintenance equipment plans.
- Participating in production decisions concerning new product lines or processes.
- Participates in cross-functional projects and leads projects as assigned by management.
- Trains, supports, and enforces GMP, Food Safety, and Food Defense guidelines and requirements.
- Provides day-to-day production support.
- Monitoring supply inventory levels and recommending orders as needed.
- Overseeing all required paperwork, reports, and documentation.
- Following up on customer complaints/CAPA deviations.
- Acting as an expert on the production processes and maintaining ability to be first-line troubleshooter. Ensuring proper up-keep of equipment, addressing and resolving problems, and initiating work orders for repairs. Participating and following up on audit findings.
- Continually reviews, recommends and implements programs to comply with all State, Federal and local
safety and sanitation regulations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read, write and speak English.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to make administrative, procedural, and employment-related decisions in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to effectively and succinctly communicate in oral and written form to all levels (Operator to Executive) of the organization, as well as outside contractors.
- Possess working knowledge of continuous improvement principles and their application.
- Possess a working knowledge in Microsoft Office programs.
- May require domestic and/or international travel up to 10%.
- These characteristics are normally acquired through a Bachelor’s degree in a business or science discipline, and one to three years of supervisory experience.
Working Conditions
Working environment is generally favorable. Work schedule, lighting, temperature, and noise levels are adequate with occasional exposure to cold temperatures. Frequent entry into the production facility requires
personal protective equipment to be worn at all times. This includes a lab coat, hair/beard net, safety glasses, and gloves. Work schedule may be first, second, or third shift and could involve weekend or extended shift
work.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, use hands to finger, handle or touch objects, keyboard and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or
crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
