Job Title: Preschool Early Intervention Supervisor of Special Education
Position Summary:
This position is accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and supervising the delivery of educational services to preschool children with identified delays in order to ensure that the needs of each child are met, and services are being implemented as written in the child's Individualized Education Program (IEP), including acting as a Preschool Early Intervention representative (LEA) at children’s IEP meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises professional staff who conduct evaluations and provide educational services and supervises paraprofessional staff who provide supportive services to preschool students with disabilities. Observes, confers with and evaluates staff, initiating corrective measures when necessary.
- Reviews and edits Evaluation Reports and serves as Preschool Early Intervention representative (LEA) in IEP meetings to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations in meeting the needs of students. Facilitates meetings with parents and community agencies as indicated and provides ongoing support as needed.
- Collaborates with Human Resources to conduct interviews and select staff to ensure that the program is staffed with qualified persons. Assigns long-term substitute personnel when appropriate.
- Prepares and assigns student caseloads to staff members in order to provide maximum services to students in the most efficient manner.
- Completes observations of children, reviewing ER, IEP, and data, to help determine appropriate placement changes and/or the need for additional supports (e.g., personal care assistants).
- Plans, coordinates, and/or presents professional development to paraprofessional and/or professional staff (including during New Employee Training) in relation to current or new and effective practices, OCDEL initiatives, evaluation tools, program databases, program procedures, and/or laws and regulations. Works to ensure implementation of the new learning.
- Facilitates Kindergarten transition meetings with parents and district representatives to assist in the systematic transition of students into school age settings.
- Facilitates communication with program staff (including new classroom teams), interagency programs, district personnel, parents, early care and education partners.
- Collaborates with other AIU departments and participates on AIU committees to further the goals of the organization, as appropriate.
- Completes additional projects as assigned by the Director.
- Pennsylvania Certification in Special Education, Speech and Language Impairment, or Early Intervention
- PA Supervisory Certification in Special Education
- Master’s Degree in the area of Special Education or Related Services
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in special education or early intervention
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including effective presentation skills required.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple initiatives required.
- Ability to build trust and positive working relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholder groups; able to promote high expectations and high quality for all staff.
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, while remaining logical and interpersonal.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in working as a member of a team required.
- Excellent collaboration and leadership skills.
- Data-driven decision-making skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
- Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, and responsible.
- Valid PA Driver’s License
Additional Requirements:
- Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).
- School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
