Job Overview:
The plant engineer provides day-to-day technical support with emphasis on plant improvements, process safety, Quality & Control, and process consistency. The position interfaces with various functional teams including Safety, Health & Environmental Services, Quality, Maintenance, Reliability, Project Engineering, Process Controls, Process Safety, as well as operating teams at other ASUs facilities in the US.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide process safety stewardship in areas of operating procedures, operating/technical manuals, critical safety systems, management of change, pre-startup safety reviews, process hazards analysis, incident investigations, audits and assessments, alert compliance, operations training, alarm management, P&ID updates, and action item follow-up.
- Champion and promote a strong safety culture.
- Provide technical expertise to Production and Maintenance Technicians.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems and implement solutions.
- Propose and execute small capital projects.
- Monitor plant efficiency using KPI's, present and report these frequently to the Facility Manager.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support plant startups and provide as-needed support for plant turnaround planning and execution.
- Maintain a working knowledge of Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMP's), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), and Engineering Standards. Review and participate in the elaboration for the Site-specific Operating Procedures (SSOP's), Site-specific Maintenance Procedures (SSMP's), and.
- Lead or participate in (1) Safety Assessments, (2) Incident Investigations, (3) Productivity Initiatives including six sigma and cost reduction.
- Support reliability engineering and mechanical integrity efforts.
- Support the QA/QC Engineer preparing all reports or presentation with a plant data requested.
Qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. in Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or similar.
- 2+ years’ experience as a process or plant engineer.
- Strong technical skills.
- A strong process safety background is preferred.
- Should have prior experience in plant / process engineering.
- Must have a positive attitude, be willing to quickly adapt to changing situations, have strong communication skills, and a strong will to build and maintain productive relationships across departmental lines.
- Must be a self-starter and could work independently as well as to lead and participate on cross-functional teams.
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities, drive issues to completion, and obtain results.
- Must be detail-oriented with an ability and desire to persevere.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledges in AutoCAD, and a Simulation software’s are preferred.
