Job Summary: Reports directly to the Patient Access Director assists with the responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Patient Access/PBX Communication areas and the primary registration functions to include Financial Counseling, Insurance Verification, Communications Area, and Cashiering. Assists the Supervisor/ Director with setting and meeting goals, monitoring employee’s productivity and developing staff through education and motivation. Promotes a friendly customer service area and provides continuity by instituting and/or enhancing procedures and system programs based on the hospital and/or industry changes. Responsibilities to include assisting in maintaining the department’s monthly schedule to ensure registration areas are staffed based on the needs of the department,24 hours / 7 days a week. Responsible to complete payroll procedures. Maintain the regulatory requirements including Title 22, TJC compliance, EMTALA, and HIPAA

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the daily activities of the specific registration area to insure departmental standards are being met along with monitoring and maintaining patient flow.
  • Assists Supervisor to ensure all personnel and department policies/ procedures are being followed.
  • Sets an example for staff to follow and exemplifies the ability to register all patient types while exceling in the core functions performed by the Patient Access staff.
  • Maintains QA statistics (including patient wait times, etc.) and report results to the Supervisor.
  • Secures all necessary signatures for treatments (i.e. release of medical information, assignment of Insurance benefits and payment of services from legally responsible patients).
  • Ensures that all registration documents are being scanned at 100%.
  • Assists Supervisor in educating registration staff of any changes pertinent to their roles and with onboarding new hires.
  • Monitors collection statistics and is responsible for collecting copays/deductibles as well.
  • Assumes on-call responsibilities to insure adequate staffing exists and utilizes problem-solving skills when appropriate.
  • Responsible for making sure that ordered supplies are put away and downtime packets are readily available.
  • Assists in resolving all employee and patient concerns for the particular department.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Registration Manager/Supervisor.
  • Demonstrates cooperation, flexibility, reliability, and dependability in all daily work activities and a willingness to collaborate with others for the good of the customer and the organization.

Education/Experience:

  • High school graduate or job-related work experience equivalent.

  • Two years hospital admitting experience preferred

Must be completed prior to start date:

  • BCLS Certification Required

  • AB508 Training Required when working in Emergency Department
