Job description
The Family Center in Montpelier is a member of the Parent Child Network of VT whose focus is support and education to families with young children through wraparound service delivery. The goal is to help all Vermont families get off to a healthy start, promote well-being, and build on family strengths. We’re a committed team of people where collaboration and mutual support are the norm.
We are looking for someone to join our amazing team to provide individualized parent education and family support to pregnant and parenting families with children birth through age 5 who may be faced with multiple life stressors. The goal is to strengthen family resiliency and functioning to promote optimal health through the lens of the 5 Protective Factors.
Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Public Health, or other related human service field and three years’ of previous supervised work experience with young children and/or parents; Maturity and experience in working with children (0-5 years of age) and their families. Familiarity with child development, age birth to five, and related parenting needs. Knowledge of normal child growth/development and parent-child relationships; Working knowledge of the health care, social service and educational resources in Washington County.
Essential Functions: Provide intensive home visiting to a standard caseload of approximately 20 families; Act on referrals and collaborate closely with referral source and other providers to address family needs; Use the Strengthening Families Framework as a tool to guide families to enhance their protective factors; Assess the normal growth and development of the target child: Administer all required tools and screenings according to the standardized Tool Timeline; Provide individualized parent education services to families at home and in the community that addresses topics such as: behavior management, child development, community resources, transportation, medical and dental homes, mental health and drug treatment, and stable housing; Maintain a regular and long-term relationship with the family.
