POSITION OVERVIEW

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The purpose of the Infrastructure Division is to effectively manage the Houston Airport System (HAS) infrastructure by establishing and maintaining asset management standards and effectively executing capital renewal and rehabilitation projects.

The purpose of the Painter position is to ensure that the facilities, equipment, structures and utilities are constructed, installed, and maintained in a manner commensurate with maximizing value to our customers. Functions are performed in a manner which applies the most innovation and appropriate engineering and financial principles. “Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required.”

The Painter duties will include but are not limited to:


  • Reviews and implements work orders and assignments.
  • Identifies, prepares and obtains required materials, supplies and equipment to complete assignments.
  • Performs general painting, restoration and refinishing techniques, e.g., spray and brush painting,
  • varnishing, priming, scraping, floating and taping.
  • Identifies, prepares and obtains required materials, supplies and equipment to complete assignments.
  • Repairs damaged surfaces.
  • Mixes and blends paint to match colors.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work area.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns. Requires the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; with large equipment as an extension of the worker; ability to communicate effectively and work well with other team members.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. No special knowledge of any subject area or technical field is required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years of experience as a painter are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving. May require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an "H" endorsement for transporting hazardous material.

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in wood finishing, industrial painting and drywall experience. Some knowledge of associated building trades such as sheet rock and glazing is a plus. Knowledge of proper mixing and matching of paints and finishes; proper cleaning of supplies (brushes and equipment); paints, varnishes, stains, enamels, lacquers and redecorates walls, floors, woodwork and fixtures of buildings using appropriate tools and techniques. Experience with Airport Markings or an EPA certification is preferred.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **
