Starcon is seeking experienced Millwrights local to the Bedford Park, IL area. NCCER Industrial Maintenance Mechanic OR NCCER Millwright preferred.

Primary Function:

The Millwright local to Bedford Park, IL area is responsible for performing quality and safe mechanical work. Duties of a Millwright may include, but are not limited to, performing skilled pump, turbine and compressor and rotating equipment work.

The Millwright will work closely with Supervision with a goal of obtaining sufficient knowledge and experience. They will assist the Supervisor in all assigned tasks. The team member shall work as a Millwright until such time has occurred that the necessary knowledge, experience, testing, and certification have been met to enable the team member to advance.

Work Environment:

The normal work environment will be in an industrial facility where exposure to outdoor weather conditions is possible and where proper PPE is required for a variety of potential hazards.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The roles and responsibilities of a Millwright may include but are not limited to the following items.

• Strong working knowledge and experience working with rotating equipment
• Performing quality work
• Ensure proper permits have been obtained and the ability to read and understand all permits
• Responsible for the proper disassembly and assembly of rotating equipment
• Housekeeping of job site
• Ensures all tools and materials used by their crew are returned to the proper location at the end of shift
• Assist immediate Supervisor with aligning of future tasks to be completed
• Must be willing to provide guidance and on the job training experience to other crafts
• Completion of JSA’s
• Fully participate in health, safety quality and environmental processes
• An ambassador for STARCON to the client, other contractors, and the public

Qualification Guidelines:

Experience:
Six years’ experience working in the mechanical trades

Skills:

• Strong math knowledge as it pertains to job tasks
• Working knowledge of Millwright tools
• The ability to set and align pumps and motors
• The ability to align shafts and install seals
• Installation and use of shims
• Understand tolerances (+ -) related to Millwright work
• Ability to plan work activities ahead of work pace Basic knowledge of rigging
• Proper torquing of bolting
• Cleaning of soiled equipment
• Ability to check vibration on rotating equipment
• Ability to read P&ID’s
• Working knowledge of lubrication and oil mist systems
• Ability to utilize laser alignment equipment
• Complete appropriate STARCON skills assessment test(s)

Education/Certifications:

• Must be willing to attend and successfully complete training applicable to job as deemed necessary by STARCON
• Must have valid driver’s license or other government issued identification

Licensures/Clearances:

• Valid driver’s license

Physical:

• Must comply with STARCON’s background drug and alcohol policy
• Must be able to pass physical examination, pre-employment if necessary and as required by STARCON
• Must be able to climb ladders and stairways
• Must be able to carry 50 lbs. of tools and/or materials
• Must be able to work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.)
• Must be clean shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required
• Ability to periodically work extended hours and shifts when deemed necessary.

Safety/Environmental:

• Must be able to pass applicable site-specific training
• Knowledge of chemical hazards which may require special precautions and PPE, such as Sulfuric acid and caustic.
• Must undertake the appropriate safety/environment training commensurate with the position and location.
• CPR and First Aid trained, when required
• Must be able to read and understand safety instructions, signs, labels and permits in English
