Position Title: Medical Assistant

Department: Clinical Services

Reports to: Nurse Manager

FLSA Status: Salaried, non-exempt

The Clinic for Special Children provides a generous benefits package for full-time employees which includes health, dental, and vision insurance at no cost to the employee and the option to participate in a Flexible Savings Account (FSA) for medical expenses and/or dependent care. Medical Assistant Role

The Clinic for Special Children (CSC) is a medical practice that serves children and adults with genetic disorders from primarily the Amish and Mennonite communities. The Clinic’s mission is to provide CSC patients with innovative, culturally competent, personalized medical care. This requires teamwork and collaboration between CSC’s clinical, laboratory, and research teams. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the medical assistant will assist in providing day-to-day clinical and administrative services to medically complex children and adults. Daily responsibilities include rooming patients, phlebotomy, cleaning and preparing exam rooms, answering phone calls, and scheduling appointments.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required, associates in relevant area preferred
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited medical assistance program, certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or willingness to sit for certificate required
  • 1-2 years of medical assistant experience, preferably with both pediatric and adult
  • Proficiency with Epic EHR preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination, measure vital signs, and document in EHR accordingly.
  • Collect blood and other specimens and prepare the samples for the lab.
  • Administer vaccines and medications as prescribed by physicians.
  • Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, properly dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Assist physicians with various outpatient procedures.
  • Assist physicians with refill requests, coordination of studies, and referrals for patients.
  • Support outreach clinics or perform home visits with providers, as needed.
  • Receive and direct phone calls, schedule appointments, check-in patients, obtain necessary patient information to file and update patient records, and ensure all forms and consents are completed by patients.
  • Participate in translational clinical research protocols as determined by the Research Operations Director and Clinical Operations Team
  • Assist with front office and administrative responsibilities, such as answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, scanning files, and assisting with check-in/check-out.
  • Maintain active BLS
  • Accrue continuing education credits sufficient to maintain MA certification
  • Other duties as needed and assigned by supervisor

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $34,000.00 - $36,000.00 per year
