Mecosta County Advocate
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: In no particular rank or order.
Respond to crisis and information/referral calls for domestic violence and sexual assault victims/survivors.
Provide individual and group support counseling to non-residential clients in Mecosta County.
Provide advocacy for domestic and sexual violence clients within the criminal justice system.
Provide assistance in the application of Personal Protection Orders for Mecosta County clients.
Assist clients in writing victim impact statements.
Review local newspapers and court dockets for SA and DV cases unreported to WISE.
Contact Prosecutor’s Office for domestic and sexual violence referrals.
Maintain attorney referral lists.
Follow up with the criminal justice system to facilitate a coordinated response and support to domestic violence and sexual assault.
Provide personal advocacy services to clients involved with legal, medical, housing, education, and financial service systems in Mecosta County.
Provide referrals for clients as needed.
Provide or facilitate transportation for clients as needed to access resources.
Participate in appropriate meetings, committees and projects to benefit clients and the organization.
Network with various agencies, organizations and individuals on a regular basis.
Engage in systems change work and the promotion of coordinated community response to domestic violence and sexual assault through related activities.
Conduct speaking engagements and public awareness activities with various agencies, organizations and civic groups in Mecosta County.
Maintain appropriate client paperwork as required by the organization and VOCA. This includes quarterly narratives, reports, and numbers.
Attend and participate in the Women’s Information Service, Inc. staff meetings as scheduled.
Rotate after hours crisis back-up responsibilities with other designated staff.
Other duties as assigned by the Program or Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Professional: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services related field preferred.
Experience: Knowledge of and interest in women’s issues, particularly the dynamics and laws pertaining to domestic and sexual violence.
Communication: The ability to speak and write clearly using proper spelling and grammar.
Technical: Ability to utilize a personal computer and demonstrate familiarity with Windows and Microsoft programs.
Other: Possession of a valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance and reliable transportation.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Volunteers/Interns
SUPERVISOR/RESPONSIBLE TO: Program Director, Executive Director
SALARY AND CLASSIFICATION: Range $16.50 to $18 per hour. Full-time, Non-Exempt.
BENEFITS: Health insurance, paid parental leave, life insurance, paid time off benefits available after 90 day introductory period. Simple IRA, and employer matching available after one year of service.
SCHEDULE: Primarily 8-5 p.m. Monday through Friday but may include some evening and weekend hours to meet client needs.
