Primary Responsibilities
Merrick & Company's Nuclear Services & Technology team provides full service nuclear design solutions to the federal government (DOE, NNSA and NIST), nuclear research, nuclear medicine, and the commercial nuclear power industries. Merrick is seeking a highly motivated, team oriented Mechanical Designer to support our operations from our Los Alamos, NM office.
Job Description
The designer will create drafted documentation associated with HVAC and Plumbing/Piping systems for a variety of facility projects. Work typically includes developing process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and layout of mechanical equipment and associated duct and piping systems. The designer will typically work in a design team environment consisting of a project manager, project engineer, and multi-discipline architectural and engineering staff to produce project design packages of drawings.
Periodic travel to other Merrick offices or project site locations may be required.
Primary Responsibilities
- The designer will work under an engineer producing CAD documents using the basic working knowledge of the CAD software.
- Follow defined standards and procedures.
- Perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed.
- Exercise initiative, judgment and knowledge as required in area of responsibility.
- Receives initial instructions from a supervisor. Technical work is checked upon completion.
- The position requires teamwork skills to effectively interact with other Merrick engineers located in remote offices to support the overall project.
Qualifications/Experiences
- High school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree in CAD or Drafting Technologies preferred.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in HVAC and plumbing/piping systems.
- Revit and AutoCAD experience required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship

- Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
- Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.
