POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Site Director, the Child Care Cook is responsible for the safe preparation, purchase and storage of all foods used in the program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Follows the DCF Wisconsin Licensing Rules for Group Child Care Centers, the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and the YMCA Child Care Policies.

Works with supervisors in developing menus in compliance with the CACFP.

Works with supervisors in ordering or purchasing appropriate amounts of food.
-
Prepares food according to CACFP guidelines.
-
Dishes out food and encourages children to serve themselves.
-
Stores foods appropriately before and after cooking.
-
Records amounts of food, including milk, used daily on production records.
-
Washes and sterilizes dishes, pots, and utensils after meals according to DHFS.46.

Cleans refrigerator, stove, bins and cabinets.
-
Cleans, sanitizes all counters, sinks, and tables. Washes dish clothes/towels.

Assumes duties of housekeeper as needed.

Assists in nutrition education of children.

Participates in at least 4 hours of kitchen sanitation, food handling, and nutrition training annually.

Follows licensing rules for kitchens DHFS 46.06(9).

Understands all outside employment for CACFP employees must be approved in advance by the authorized representative of the Kettle Moraine YMCA Child Care Program.

Builds and maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, volunteers, other staff, and the communities we serve.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum age of 18 years old.

Ability to appropriately interact with children at their cognitive level.

Ability to work with minimum supervision.

Must complete and pass fingerprint check.

Must complete a Health Physical within 30 days of hire.

Time management and record keeping skills.
-
Basic knowledge of cooking basics and kitchen functions.

Assistant teacher certified or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The ability to lift 40 lbs.

The ability to stand for long periods of time.

Perform essential movements which may include, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead, crouching, kneeling, working in narrow and/or confining spaces underground, overhead, and at ground level, twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs, and lying on stomach and/or back.
