Work Schedule - Wednesday - Saturday 9am - 5pm; Sunday 11am-7pm

We are currently seeking Microbiology Technician I for an expanding food testing laboratory located in Martinsville VA. The laboratory provides testing services for all Monogram foods production facilities and provides a range of microbial food and foodborne pathogen testing needs. The nature of the position is to perform analytical and microbiological testing of food and environmental samples. Our ideal candidate will be familiar with the general operations of a commercial laboratory. The individual will have the ability to work collaboratively as a member of the team to achieve common goals, as well as working independently.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the laboratory’s Microbiology Manager, the candidate will work as part of the team to prepare food and environmental samples for testing, pipette samples, set up sterilizing equipment, read results, and maintain a GLP working environment.


  • Receive and log in samples into the lab
  • Perform daily GLP monitoring and required calibrations
  • Apply aseptic/microbiological techniques in daily workload
  • Prepare food samples for further analysis
  • Perform testing to support production facilities in accordance with SOP’s and regulations (ISO, AOAC, USP, BAM)
  • Perform serial dilutions
  • Prepare microbiological growth media and other laboratory solutions to support testing
  • Utilize problem solving skills
  • Communicate results to laboratory management

Perform additional laboratory duties assigned by Microbiology Manager

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Job Requirements:

  • Technical knowledge of microbiology methods and technologies.
  • Automated microbiology methodologies experience a plus
  • Self-starter
  • Experience with Microsoft office required, LIMS systems a plus
  • Ability to efficiently prioritize, manage and complete multiple projects and tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to conduct analysis and read, interpret, and report technical data.
  • Experience with GLP’s, aseptic technique

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in biological science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience in food manufacturing
  • Prior microbiology knowledge or lab experience preferred
  • Familiar with GLP, AOAC, BAM, ISO procedures
  • Ability to work independently
